Today, I visited Shanghai Global Harbor to participate in the offline community tournament hosted by Honor of Kings (Honor of Kings cosplay). The event took place in the shopping mall's central atrium—a remarkably open and spacious venue where the overhead lighting was exceptionally flattering for doing cosplay.
To prepare for this Global Harbor offline event, I woke up bright and early. My styling today featured a black-and-white sleeveless dress traced with bold geometric lines, exuding a distinct techwear aesthetic. For hair, I wore a deep-blue wig with vibrant red highlights at the ends, paired with purple contact lenses; the complete hair and makeup styling took nearly two hours. The arm guards were color-blocked in black and grey with silver line detailing, requiring careful adjustment for a snug fit. At the collar sat a golden star ornament with a cascading black fringe tassel that swayed gently with each step. For footwear, I paired it with tall boots featuring chunky gold heels; while the heels weren't excessively high, standing on them all day in the mall was certainly no small test of endurance.
Arriving at the event floor, the crowd's energy far exceeded expectations. The community tournament stage was completely surrounded by spectators, with matches broadcast live across the giant LED screen. Even while preparing backstage, I could hear waves of roaring cheers outside. Many players had formed teams and registered independently, exhibiting laser-sharp focus while competing on stage. Watching from the sidelines for a while, I was thoroughly impressed by their high skill level and seamless teamfight synergy.
The venue also featured a brand collaboration with CHAGEE, showcasing a crossover between esports and fresh tea culture. Between matches, numerous players and cosplayers queued up to purchase drinks. I took advantage of a break to grab a cup—not only was it refreshing, but the cup design also doubled as a stylish handheld photography prop.
Participating in this event, the most rewarding part was interacting with everyone. Many attendees and photographers were exceptionally friendly, scouting angles along the venue perimeter to snap photos. Whenever someone approached asking for a photo together, I gladly obliged. Although I wasn't sure how people recognized my exact character styling, their genuine love for the Honor of Kings franchise was palpable. Strolling through the mall, passersby would pause to take a second look; that sense of being noticed is truly an indispensable part of any offline event.
Because it was a collegiate challenge, the floor was filled with young university students. Seeing them cheer in triumph or sigh over close calls showed just how infectious offline esports atmosphere truly is. Compared to playing games online, competing face-to-face definitely adds a profound layer of passion and visceral authenticity.
The entire event spanned from the afternoon into the evening. Although standing for hours in tall boots left the soles of my feet aching, reviewing the resulting photos from varied angles on camera made everything feel immensely worthwhile. This offline experience at Global Harbor allowed me to immerse myself in pure ACG culture and gaming enthusiasm, while connecting with friends who share the same love for cosplay. If similar offline tournaments happen in the future, I would love to return with a new look to show my support in person.
