This shoot features an Ai Haibara cosplay in a Maid outfit, mainly created to match the romantic and special occasion of White Day. Choosing a Maid outfit was a fresh take on the character—since Ai Haibara is usually cool and reserved, wearing such a high-contrast outfit brings out a distinct charm.

For the costume, selecting the fabric for the black main dress took considerable time; it needed the right drape and texture to hold the silhouette. The lace trim on the white apron had to maintain slight stiffness while staying soft and flowing, ensuring the best effect when brushed by outdoor breezes. The classic ruffled headband was custom-tailored to flatter the facial contours without looking jarring. Small details like cuff buttons and black dashed stitching along the apron hem were handled with great care, as costume accuracy is the most fundamental and vital aspect of cosplay.

For hair and makeup, to capture Ai Haibara's cool aura, I specifically wore ice-blue contact lenses, drawing straighter eyeliner to tone down cutesy roundness and add sharpness. Blush was applied lightly, paired with soft pink lips to evoke the character's subtle sense of detachment. The long brown wig was custom-made, requiring extensive trimming and styling. To keep the Maid outfit from feeling too heavy, the hair was cut with distinct layers so shadows under sunlight looked natural.

The weather was lovely on shoot day. We chose a garden lush with greenery where light filtering through leaves created dappled highlights, casting a natural vintage mood over the attire. We prepared a small silver tray and a slice of fruit cake as props. Though tempting, I couldn't actually eat the cake on set, staying mindful of expressions and poses so my gaze conveyed both subtle longing and nonchalance.

To complement post-edited cat ears and pink heart effects, we captured sets from multiple angles. Since the original lighting was gorgeous, post-processing retained warm ambient tones while adding festive decorative accents. Retouching focused on garment contours and skin texture to make the Maid outfit look refined.

Capturing that contrast of Ai Haibara wearing a cute Maid outfit while maintaining a cool gaze was the core vibe I wanted to deliver. While I usually portray mature, assertive characters, occasionally trying cute outfits with delicate props is a refreshing experience. We met small challenges—like grass clippings clinging to the skirt hem requiring constant touch-ups, or adjusting seated poses to manage petticoat lines and avoid cluttered leg positioning for a clean aesthetic. This meticulously coordinated black-and-white Maid outfit paired with outdoor lighting hopes to bring out the essence of White Day. Seeing the refined results from prep to post-processing made the journey immensely rewarding.
