[Seiga Kaku Cosplay] Ethereal Blue Hermit and Talismans of Touhou Project

Shooting this set of Seiga Kaku from Touhou Project, the overall cool-toned atmosphere fits her slightly wicked yet celestial feel perfectly. I put a lot of effort into the wig this time; this gradient ocean-blue curly wig has plenty of hair volume. I trimmed the bangs and sideburns myself to create an airy feel, and reinforced the two hair buns on top. Adorned with small hair accessories, it retains the character's signature traits while preventing the styling from collapsing easily, keeping its 3D curliness even under strong studio lights.

For the outfit, I chose a fabric combining light blue and silver-white lace. The top features a halterneck design, a cut that really highlights the shoulder and neck lines. The abundant pearl necklaces and metal chain accessories across the chest serve as one of the visual focal points of the dress, perfectly complementing the teal silk ribbons to maintain a touch of delicacy and luxury within the overall cool tone. The sleeves are very voluminous and intricate, made of double-layered lace and floral embroidered tulle with great drape. When making poses during the shoot, the waving sleeve hems created a beautiful dynamic effect.

One of the key highlights of this photo set is actually the lower-body styling. First is the white mesh sheer thigh-high stocking; to complement this outfit, I specifically selected a style with a delicate woven pattern for a white pantyhose cosplay look. Then, a striking vermilion-bordered talisman was strapped onto the thigh with a thin red cord. The seal on this talisman was custom-made, immediately creating a visual connection with the character while serving as an eye-catching accent amid the vast blue-and-white color palette. The layered ruffles of the short skirt beautifully outline the leg lines in a seated posture, presenting a lazy and effortless atmosphere in the photos.

As for props, I prepared a small white ceramic teapot and matching mini cups, taking many interactive shots of pouring tea. Tilting the spout to pour tea into the cup, or bringing the teapot close to my lips captured a casual, nonchalant expression. In another set of photos, there was a dark long pipe with a faint smoke effect added at the tip, which, combined with the hand-holding posture, instantly brought out the mystical aura of a wandering immortal.

The photographer put a lot of work into the set background. The huge circular backdrop behind simulated a full moon, creating a wonderful rim light outline when backlit. Combined with cool, dark-blue ambient lighting, it perfectly matched Seiga Kaku's character palette. The wooden lattice screen props and the faint silhouettes of cherry blossoms and leaves in the surrounding set blurred beautifully under a wide aperture without stealing focus from the subject, while thoroughly enhancing the mysterious, serene atmosphere.

Shooting Touhou Project characters like this really tests pose design and emotional expression. To portray that slightly lazy, slightly wicked, yet ethereal feel, having a great outfit is essential, but eye contact and facial expressions are equally crucial. This shoot was super fun, and the final photos turned out very crisp and clear. Bringing a Touhou fanon cosplay character to life felt like pulling the carefree, uninhibited Seiga out of Gensokyo for a stroll in reality, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
