The details of this costume were honestly quite laborious: red fabric with subtle dark jacquard patterns trimmed with concentric circles of white lace ruffles creates a classic Western dress design. For hair and makeup, to match the character's persona, I deliberately elongated my eye shape and blended red eyeshadow across the outer corners. The hair took considerable effort to style into blonde curls, paired with a white-and-red-trimmed lace headdress—I really love the subtle Gothic fairy tale atmosphere it created.
On the day of the shoot, the ambient lighting at the venue was quite complex. Wakaba utilized extensive backlighting and side-backlighting for the lighting setup, creating a gorgeous rim light around my silhouette that contrasted sharply against the dark convention backdrop and accentuated the layered tiers of the dress. Working with this lighting, I tried sitting on a high stool with crossed legs while holding a red apple. This allowed for a better display of the details of the White lace knee-high socks and red patent leather high heels, flattering the leg lines while adding visual allure to the composition. Beyond the primary weapon, we specially prepared props like a red apple and a teddy bear plushie, which helped provide balance points during single-leg standing poses so I wouldn't lose my center of gravity.
Shooting a Circular convention photoshoot demands high precision for freezing motion, especially poses like raising the crystal prop and swinging the wand/whip, which often took numerous takes to capture the perfect dynamic frame. Though exhausting, running around on and off the stage to adjust postures was a lot of fun. Everyone coordinated smoothly, allowing me to deliver a complete visual state the moment the shutter clicked. The waist of this outfit was laced very tightly and the petticoat was huge, significantly restricting my range of motion. For poses involving wide leg lifts in particular, extreme care was needed to control the skirt hem and prevent accidental exposure. The specially chosen stockings adorned with small white bows were also intended to give the legs a sense of visual extension.
As everyone can see in these photos, there is both a touch of childish innocence and an elusive sense of obsession—which is the core expressive nuance I wanted to convey. To ensure accuracy in my movements, I practiced body language and expressions in front of the mirror well beforehand, especially that playful, inviting sense of asking someone to play. Whether standing or sitting, it was essential to project a vibrant energy that could leap into action at any moment. This process gave me a deeper understanding of the character, and I am especially grateful to the photographer for patiently capturing these fleeting moments amidst such a complex environment.
