[Marisa cosplay] The Touhou Project Witch at Firefly ACG Expo

All sorted with the Day 2 Marisa cosplay Convention photo shots from Firefly, posting them straight away! This set was shot outdoors on the second day of the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo, walking and pausing along the street to capture shots whenever the light was right.

The fidelity of this outfit is quite nice: a black star-and-moon patterned skirt paired with a white lace apron with criss-cross ribbons, puffy sleeves, and the iconic large black hat accented with a purple bow. With long hair braided into twin tails draping down, plus the broom adorned with a purple ribbon and shimmering tulle, the overall styling really captures that classic nostalgic 2D vibe of Touhou Project.

Shooting was actually quite exhausting—especially holding the broom, which tended to block my line of sight and required constant repositioning to avoid obscuring my face. The skirt is very wide, so when running or twirling, I had to lift and spread it beforehand to keep it neat. Choosing to shoot on the street created a contrast with high-rises and roadside greenery; with a blurred background, standing next to a manhole cover in the middle of the road gave off an authentic everyday life vibe rather than the stiff composition of a studio shoot.

Several photos captured dynamic candid moments, such as single-leg high kicks and jumping poses, mainly designed to showcase the layered skirt, leg lines, and the styling of white socks with black leather shoes. A few shots were taken sitting directly on the pavement; while the ground was hard and dusty, it catered to the photographer's low-angle upward shots, making chin-resting poses and interactions with the broom look much more natural. There were many passersby and convention visitors watching, but everyone was very polite and gave us space to shoot.

Regarding the gear, the outfit's drape is quite good, though the hat has some weight to it, requiring me to hold it down with my hand to prevent the wind from blowing it away. We shot with backlighting and side lighting, creating a lovely halo around the hat brim that I really liked. The takeaway from this session is that amidst crowded and noisy outdoor convention settings, picking suitable weather and relatively open street sections with clean background blur genuinely elevates the texture of the photos. If I get the chance to join related themed events in the future, I'd love to try more poses and prop interactions—after all, this styling has great versatility, with seated, standing, and jumping poses all wonderfully showcasing the character's personality. I hope this Convention photo set captures these cherished moments from a beloved work.
