[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] The Red and White Battle Dress at the World Line Anime Convention

Wearing this gorgeous red and white dress and standing at the venue of the World Line Anime Convention, I felt the light and atmosphere were just right. The concept of this outfit actually underwent a long period of refinement; although it ultimately presents such a complex visual effect, it actually required accommodating a large range of movement when wearing and moving around. This set of photos taken today is a complete presentation of my entire styling concept.

Let's first talk about the structure of this costume. The most time-and-energy-consuming part was probably the head decoration. The off-white ruffled fabric is stacked to create a very voluminous silhouette, and the huge bright red bow in the center serves as a highly recognizable visual anchor. Fixing the hair accessory actually took a lot of effort, as it had to ensure it wouldn't tilt while walking or waving props, while still maintaining a light and fluffy look. As for the top, the large V-neckline combined with a small mandarin collar and layers of lace edges elongates the entire neckline. The most physically substantial parts are the huge detached sleeve pieces on both sides; the off-white main fabric is paired with red piping and pleated ruffles. With a flip of the hand, the entire sleeve spreads out like open wings, forming a very imposing silhouette.

The design of the skirt also continues this gorgeous and composite style. The red base of the skirt is covered with white textured prints, and the red criss-cross straps at the waist not only serve to cinch the waist but also add a touch of functional style. The lower edge of the hem features a huge white bubble-shaped ruffle; this thick hem can bring very full dynamic layers during spins or hip twists. On my feet, I paired white multi-pleated lace ankle socks with black platform thick-heeled Mary Janes. This rounded shoe design visually makes the leg lines look longer.

Now let's talk about the props. To increase interaction at the convention, I prepared a red and white folding fan and a long-handled prop decorated with flowers and ribbons at the top. When holding both props simultaneously in Figure 3, the harmony of the red and white color scheme was beautifully unified. In the candid capture of Figure 4, I swung the long white ribbon along with the long-handled prop, creating a great linkage between the ribbon and the sleeves. Handheld props can greatly enrich a single individual's poses; for instance, the hands-on-hips pose in Figure 1 is a very intuitive way to display the overall costume silhouette, making it suitable as a visual cover.

The crowd at the World Line Anime Convention was huge this time, so our shooting time was actually very tight. The on-site lighting was quite complex, and the circular light spots overhead formed a particularly beautiful bokeh effect in the lens. The photographer used equipment with a larger aperture, completely blurring out the convention attendees in casual clothes in the background as well as the high-ceiling structure of the venue. As a result, it looked very much like a stage atmosphere.

To match the anime attributes of this outfit, the overall makeup and styling emphasized depth and contour in the eye makeup, which, paired with deep brown long straight hair and straight bangs, presented a visual effect that I am quite satisfied with. Although the shooting process was physically demanding—since the weight of the skirt hem and sleeves was heavier than it looked, requiring constant adjustments to my center of gravity—being able to present this meticulously prepared costume in such a venue atmosphere felt very rewarding.

The master was incredibly precise with the control of light and composition on-site, not only catching the moments of high-speed movements but also clearly restoring the structural details of my entire costume in the lens. Being able to complete this set of photos under such a pleasant cooperation was a truly rare experience.
