[Hu Tao cosplay] The White-Clad Maiden of NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, Exploring Cozy Laziness at Home

From makeup testing to final output, the overall texture of this white-clad Hu Tao look is truly one of my recent favorite sets.

Before heading out for the studio shoot, I actually spent a lot of time thinking about the key aspects of this character. Although Hu Tao in NARAKA: BLADEPOINT is positioned as cute, her in-game movements possess a nimble and graceful lightness. Therefore, rather than deliberately fabricating a fierce, combat-ready aura, we placed our focus on a cozy, lazy, and intimate atmosphere at home.

For makeup, I abandoned conventional high-contrast eyeshadows, intentionally blending large areas of low-saturation blush across the cheeks and under-eyes over a translucent foundation base. This technique maximizes a soft, baby-like skin texture that fits seamlessly with the platinum blonde double-braid wig. Choosing white fluffy animal ears was another clever detail—pure white hues don't look muddy under high-brightness lighting, but rather emit a translucent, ethereal aura.

In terms of set arrangement, we deliberately stacked giant plush teddy bears and woven elements. The massive teddy bear you see in the frame was chosen proportionally to visually highlight the character's petite stature. The bedsheet chosen was a pure white style with ruffles, which, paired with a magic wand prop on the side, constructed a mood subtly infused with fairytale elements.

Because in the design lore I received, Hu Tao's attire emphasizes limb elongation, I specifically wore White thigh-highs outfit and paired them with white arm sleeves featuring hollowed-out details and yellow ties. While the arm sleeves restrict movement quite a bit, wearing them over the lightweight knit top creates a unique sense of visual layering.

Managing light on the day of the shoot was key to achieving the final outcome. We employed High-key photography techniques, making the light sources approach soft diffuse reflection. Looking at those highlights, they wrap gently around the body without harsh shadow boundaries. This lighting treatment not only makes skin tones appear fairer, but also creates a soft glow effect around the edges of the white fur and garments—requiring minimal post-processing as raw shots already possessed that glowing feel.

For posing, I deliberately avoided traditional standing poses. The first few photos lying prone on the bed with legs raised create a natural, almost charmingly dorky angle. While appearing casual, maintaining graceful foot-and-leg lines without looking stiff actually tests core control heavily. In later shots sitting up half-way to interact with the camera, I relaxed my shoulders and rested my chin on my arms or cushions to keep my posture loose. The winking shot took numerous retakes—if the facial muscle timing is off, it can feel forced, so the selected frame was the one where the expression relaxed just right.

I actually really enjoy concepts like this, where character temperament can be conveyed without exaggerated posing. What photography circles often refer to as "facial expression management" and "body language" are particularly crucial in Animal-eared girl cosplay—overacting can easily feel unnatural, whereas subtle restraint makes it feel far more vivid. Seeing the final results, everyone should be able to sense the simple, clean, and adorable atmosphere we wished to convey.
