[Shimoe Koharu cosplay] Qixi Eve, everyday life of a blue-and-white winged Anime girl

On this special occasion of Qixi Festival, I chose Shimoe Koharu's classic white and blue dress from Blue Archive for this shoot. Koharu's iconic features lie in the floating pink halo above her head, the symmetrical black feather hair ornaments on both sides of her twintails, and that pair of massive layered black wings on her back. This visual contrast between lightness and weight is the most captivating element when choosing this character. During equipment prep, the halo prop was secured with an ultra-thin transparent bracket; to avoid revealing the bracket in wide-angle mode, we chose a higher camera angle during shooting and presented large-scale scenes from a profile or semi-profile angle as much as possible. The wing positioning underwent multiple fine adjustments—since the feather pieces are layered and pieced together, an incorrect angle could easily reveal thickness gaps behind the neck, ruining the visual appeal. The upper half of this dress features a spliced design of transparent mesh and a halter strap; to complement this off-the-shoulder cut, skin-toned invisible silicone cups were worn underneath, with shoulder strap positions adjusted to keep the mesh flat without rolling up at the edges.

We selected two types of settings for this shoot: outdoor wooden steps and indoor glossy reflective flooring. Natural light on the wooden steps offered an excellent diffuse reflection environment, allowing the white mesh skirt to display a soft matte texture under daylight, with diagonal shadow patterns cast by the black wings onto the steps. The indoor floor was made of reflective material, perfectly mirroring the white high heels and White thigh-highs outfit. Switching between sitting and standing poses easily wrinkled the back train of the tulle skirt, requiring manual smoothing of the waist mesh fabric before each new stance. The white over-the-knee socks reached right to mid-thigh, and when paired with white high heels under low-angle shots, they significantly lengthened lower body proportions.

For facial expression management, Koharu's temperament leans toward a mix of tsundere playfully cheeky personality with an underlying innocence. Therefore, for facial makeup, I opted for a clear Japanese-style foundation, using soft pink eyeshadow for the base paired with gentle peach-pink lip gloss to highlight a natural blush tone. The light pink twintail wig had its ends styled into airy, curved volume to make front-facing head proportions look fuller. The dark blue floral collar at her neck serves as the visual anchor of this outfit, nicely balancing the monotony of the large white areas on her upper body to construct a visual style that feels obedient yet subtly rebellious.

The bouquet in hand was an arrangement I assembled using cream-white and soft yellow artificial roses. During shooting, it served not only as a prop, but also as a great visual guide. Resting my fingers naturally on the stems and leaves avoided stiff hands while pulling the overall visual center of gravity downward, forming a stable triangular composition. Throughout the shoot, the crisp sound of white high heels clicking against the quiet floor helped me keep a clear rhythm. To showcase the depth of the wings from a low indoor angle, I consciously held my back straight and pulled my shoulder blades outward; slouching would make the wings sag backward.

The post-processing approach for this Cosplay photoshoot aimed for low-saturation, clear Japanese-style color grading, minimizing highlight clipping to ensure a natural, unified texture between skin and white clothing. The interaction between subject and light was the highlight of this session: on the steps, sunlight streamed diagonally from the upper left, highlighting the skirt's folds and producing rich depth. While sitting on the reflective floor, an overhead softbox delivered even diffuse lighting, preventing harsh shadows on the white garments. Overall, the Qixi Festival occasion lent these photos a serene, watchful atmosphere; paired with the bouquet, it conveyed a casual moment within campus daily life. For character recreation, while physical resemblance is key, capturing her true spirit relies on mastering costume details—including halter neck tightness, skirt flare width, and the weightless, slightly tilted angle of her halo.
