[Megumi Kato Cosplay] Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Firefly ACG Expo Event Photo Showcase

My schedule for this Firefly ACG Expo was completely packed, but I still really wanted to bring this Megumi Kato look to the venue. Because the weather was quite humid, I intentionally took a minimalist approach to hair and makeup—opting for a lightweight, long-wearing foundation paired with generous pink blush and dewy lip gloss to capture her soft, everyday complexion. The eye makeup used natural, lash-enhancing falsies rather than heavy shadow, strictly preserving that refreshing 'girl-next-door' charm.

The wig was a pre-trimmed and styled deep-brown bob with blunt bangs that rested right at brow level; to maintain the curve in the venue heat, I touched it up multiple times backstage with holding spray. For hair accessories, I chose a slender white headband adorned with pink blossoms and dangling pearl tassels that swayed gently with each step. A simple pearl necklace accented the neck, sitting neatly along the collarbones. The white camisole dress featured an imitation satin finish with an exquisite sheen, cinched at the waist with a vibrant pink satin sash tied into a generous bow, while peek-a-boo pink tulle peeked out from underneath the hemline. To elevate the overall cohesion, I added over-the-elbow white satin gloves; although the fabric didn't breathe well, they looked fantastic in photos, so it was completely worth bearing.

The crowd traffic was much heavier than anticipated, and every few steps someone would kindly ask for photos. At first, I struck a few classic hand-heart poses, but as I grew accustomed to the lenses, I transitioned into brushing my hair back with one hand, resting a palm lightly against my cheek, and folding my hands together. I found that subtly angling my torso naturally flattered the neckline and shoulders, which, paired with a gentle tilt of the head and a smile, caught that distinctive Megumi aura—a delicate balance of quiet aloofness and tender charm. In several fleeting moments, the ambient breeze caught the hem of the dress, lending a wonderful sense of organic motion to the shots.

While coordinating with photographers, I suggested skipping harsh, overly artificial lighting, as natural ambient light made this clean palette of pure white and bright pink feel far more crisp. With so many saturated colors competing across the expo hall, this clean white dress felt exceptionally clear and airy. During downtime, I explored the artist booths, discovering amazing fan-made merchandise and fantastic cosplay portrayals. Though my feet were aching and my palms were sweating inside the gloves, hearing convention-goers call out the character's name instantly snapped me right back into character—that genuine sense of recognition was deeply rewarding.

Overall, this Megumi Kato styling is relatively understated without bulky armor or massive props, meaning visual success relies entirely on pristine micro-details. Skirt folds, sash symmetry, and wig layering are all magnified under high-resolution lenses. Today provided wonderful real-world experience, from fixing sweaty bangs in a pinch to keeping long gloves from slipping down. By the time the expo wrapped up, dusk was already falling. Waiting by the roadside for a ride while packing up my gear left me exhausted, but browsing through the camera proofs made every step of the journey worthwhile. It is an everyday silhouette, yet the simpler the cut, the more demanding the execution. Next time, I would love to experiment with even more thoughtful touches in the accessory styling.
