The accessories and layering for this look were genuinely far more intricate than imagined. The wig first had to be padded to build a structured double-bun silhouette, then secured piece by piece using golden hairpins and blue-and-white floral ornaments, with glitter and transparent fine filaments woven into the strands to ensure they caught the studio lights with delicate sparkles. For makeup, I set aside earthy palettes in favor of bright blue cosmetic contacts paired with a coral-tinted lip, while rhinestones and painted blue lines accented the area beneath the eyes, allowing soft blue side locks to trace my cheek contours and elevate the overall ethereal aura.
The garment features an off-the-shoulder white foundation trimmed with tiered blue-and-white gradient ruffles. The chest and arm ornaments are crafted from rigid golden materials inlaid with blue gems; putting them on required fine-tuning the fit to keep a clean three-dimensional curve without digging in. The skirt took the most effort: two petticoats were layered underneath to support the massive golden metal frame and acrylic pieces beneath. While walking and posing, these rigid fixtures would clash against one another, requiring constant attention to angles to avoid scratches. The white garter stockings on my legs were another key detail—the crisscross cutout pattern had to stay taut and symmetrical in front of the camera without a single crease.
The staff in hand stood nearly as tall as a person, crowned with an openwork lattice of intertwined gold and blue. Although lightweight in material, holding it aloft for long periods still left my arms sore. To maintain an unyielding posture before the lens, I usually rested it against my side between takes, lifting it in one fluid motion when shooting resumed.
The studio lighting arrangement was exceptionally nuanced. The stained-glass windows in the background let light filter through beautifully; photographer 栖离 used side-back rim lighting to illuminate the translucent blue hair strands, complemented by soft frontal fill so the white dress wouldn't blow out. At times, a small flash was used from the side to outline the edges and give the metallic components a radiant gleam. In setups with floor-to-ceiling windows and white Roman columns, framing with plaster sculptures in the foreground added depth to the scene.
Throughout the shoot, assistant 赤羽裕 helped continually to smooth the elaborate skirt and adjust the metal accessories, while the versatile scene layout at Sanmiao Studio gave us ample creative freedom. I experimented with glancing back over my shoulder, leaning against railings, and raising the staff high, striving to balance cool detachment with inner strength. The slightest relaxation in posture would let the weight of the garments pull down my shoulders, so behind every frame lay a moment of total muscle engagement.
Without being confined to a rigid canon setting, this shoot was about exploring her essence through the dialogue between light, shadow, and tactile textures. From a single blue strand in the wig to the golden reflections along the skirt hem, every nuance was checked repeatedly. The keeper rate was remarkably high, and I hope everyone enjoys this visual showcase woven with metallic luster and interplay of light in this cosplay Studio portrait.
