This shoot centers on the Ambience Synesthesia version of Surtr from Arknights. Compared to her original combat outfit, this design leans toward heightened artistic tension and stage performance while retaining the character's core elements. From initial makeup trials to shooting, the creative vision revolved around presenting this both mysterious and elegant atmospheric charm.
Let's talk about the wig first. I chose a high-saturation red wig, adding fine gold glitter between hair strands to better match the stage texture of Ambience Synesthesia. Under soft indoor lights, this subtle shimmer creates a sophisticated, twinkling effect—not overly lavish, but forming a lovely contrast of light and shade with the black-and-gold horns.
The costume posed considerable difficulty. The main white dress features off-the-shoulder cuts and waist-and-belly cutouts, which heavily test body proportions. I started managing carbohydrate and salt intake half a month prior to ensure smooth waistlines. The high-slit design of the cutout, paired with golden vine straps around the legs and golden high-heeled sandals, serves as the true highlight of this styling—lengthening leg proportions while visually balancing the intricate upper-body accessories.
Accessories-wise, the black-and-gold horns on the head have a solid texture, and the golden wing-like leaf ornaments are eye-catching. To echo them, I wore a golden tassel necklace around my neck and large geometric golden arm guards on my arms, unifying the overall color scheme. The addition of red gauze streamers was the finishing touch, breaking up white monotony while bringing dynamic grace to static sitting poses.
As for makeup concepts, this determines the image texture of the final shoot. To complement the character's aura and red hair, I emphasized layered eyeshadow blending, using earth tones and light gold-brown transitions to contour deep eye sockets. Lip color favored a matte pink-orange shade, looking healthy without clashing messily against red hair. Paired with clean eyeliner, the overall makeup appeared crisp and sharp, matching the character's cold, focused demeanor.
The location chosen was a classical European interior set. A carved white fireplace, a golden sofa with intricate patterns, and faux flower clusters scattered across the floor—this soft, rich backdrop neutralized the character's intrinsic aggressiveness, highlighting a stage aesthetic.
The photographer used warm, soft lighting to beautifully capture skin radiance while letting metallic accessories reflect soft golden glows instead of harsh glare. In terms of posing, I aimed for a relaxed, elegant posture. Wearing a dress with such strong formal presence can look stiff if standing straight; sitting or leaning semi-slouched, combined with pulling red gauze, creates a lazy yet noble aura.
We also added small creative touches to hand-held props. Holding a gorgeously designed small prop adds visual weight to the frame and fills out hand posture nicely. Experience throughout this set of 2D character photography was truly engaging, requiring us to shed combat impressions of the character and immerse fully in a stage exhibition context. This was a fascinating expansion of character interpretation. Final light, shadow, and texture results met expectations, harmoniously blending gold, white, and red across the frame.
