The photo return from CICF Expo is finally sorted out! This time, my partner and I cosplayed Golden Darkness and Kurosaki Mea from To LOVE-Ru Darkness. As experienced cosplayers who frequently attend conventions, dealing with leather material is always a battle whenever doing a black leather look. We revised the patterns for these outfits several times, especially Mea's midriff-baring crop top and bat-wing hem, ensuring the flowing motion was just right when walking. Golden Darkness's long black dress, paired with animal ears and thigh straps, created an overall dark Gothic style that perfectly complements the character's persona.
The staircases at the venue became a natural backdrop, with the cool grey-blue stone steps contrasting surprisingly well against our black outfits. Luckily, there was reflected light from water puddles on the ground during shooting, and the photographer captured a particularly cool metallic texture. For my solo shots, I chose leg-raising and seated poses, aiming to best recreate Mea's wicked yet lively feel. For the duo interactions, we tried embracing and staggered standing positions; though the poses were simple, our synergy was off the charts, subtly capturing the delicate bond between the two characters.
The foot traffic at the convention was huge that day, so finding this quiet staircase was no easy feat. After every event, sorting through return photos and retouching details is always the most exhausting part, but seeing the final images makes all the late nights spent cutting leather materials and adjusting accessories completely worth it. We also made special adjustments to our makeup this time, ditching common bright lipstick shades in favor of nude tones, giving the blue contact lenses a much stronger visual impact.
Equipment-wise, a large-aperture prime lens was used to cleanly blur out the glass curtain walls and greenery, keeping the viewer's focus entirely on the characters themselves. Overall, this Cosplay sharing showcases a very enjoyable partner shoot. I hope to bring this set to more conventions in the future and take photos with different vibes, as every single detail reflects our understanding and love for these characters.
