I took a custom-designed Lynette Cosplay look to shoot the Yuyuantan night cherry blossoms. Using the Canon EOS R6 Mark II directly with the RF 24-105mm and RF 85mm lenses, the camera's high ISO performance was remarkably stable in low-light conditions, greatly increasing the yield of successful night shots. Under the lights, the RF 85mm created an excellent separation between the foreground blossoms and the background, while the 24-105mm was utilized to capture branch compositions within the broader environment. For this custom design, I chose a royal blue cardigan and a black pleated skirt; beneath the cherry blossom trees against a pitch-black backdrop, the block of blue stood out vividly amidst the dark tones. The contrast created by the blue-and-black palette was the primary focus of this photoshoot.
To facilitate night lighting during the shoot, we brought a compact speedlite and a softbox, slightly suppressing the ambient light from the front to make the subject pop. It was quite windy at the time and the branches kept swaying, requiring patient waiting between gusts to catch candid moments. This shoot was truly a test of angles—especially since the branches of the night cherry blossoms were fairly tangled, requiring deliberate avoidance of light pollution or using the dark, blurred foreground as framing. My personal favorite shooting angle was a low-angle profile looking back over the shoulder; this not only captured the cherry blossoms in the background, but also naturally showcased the curve of the tail.
Many people worry about faces turning out underexposed during night shoots, but as long as the flash is kept at a moderate distance and the exposure compensation is slightly adjusted, the skin tone can look wonderfully luminous and clear. Alternating between full-body and medium shots also lends this photo set a stronger sense of storytelling. In front of the camera, I experimented with various poses, such as using a walking cane as a visual leading line. The on-site ambiance was genuinely fantastic; this distinct color tone of the night cherry blossoms is well-suited for Anime-style photography and aligns naturally with the character's quiet personality, producing an effect that looks clean and mysterious. There were also minor hiccups during the shoot—like my clothes snagging on branches, which the staff kindly helped untangle—but overall the results turned out great. Post-processing in Lightroom mainly focused on restoring the saturation of the cherry blossom pinks and the blue outfit; since the on-site light was yellowish, dialing in the white balance properly made the blossoms look tender and pink.
