This set of commissioned Jinhsi cosplay photos from the Zhuzhou Xiangju ACG Convention is finally ready, and after gathering my thoughts, I wanted to share my reflections on the creative process. The venue environment on the day of shooting was quite unique; dense spotlights mounted on metal trusses overhead provided general lighting but easily cast uneven shadows across the face, presenting a major challenge for lighting setup and camera positioning in Cosplay photography. To recreate the character's temperament as faithfully as possible, I put considerable effort into styling. The wig was custom-made with silver-white twin pigtails, featuring a gradient from silver-white to ice blue at the ends. To withstand drafty winds in the convention hall, I used plenty of styling hairspray to maintain the blue ribbons, preventing bows from tangling with the wig during larger movements. The costume featured an off-the-shoulder white chiffon top with exquisite lace trim along the collar, accented by a dark bowtie as a visual focal point. The lower-body light blue pleated skirt had distinct dark stitching along its hem, maintaining a crisp contour even during extended sitting. Paired with white lace ruffled socks and shiny black platform leather shoes, the entire Anime-style outfit possessed a clean, refreshing color tone. With huge crowds at the venue, finding an undisturbed spot to shoot was a real challenge. Several friends on the team helped block the view so Photographer WiFi and I could comfortably create using the available props on site. The shoot was split into two scenes: the first utilized a black high stool provided by the venue, employing high-angle lookdowns or eye-level angles to neatly frame skirt ruffles and leg lines together; the second took place on a white plush rug temporarily laid out at the hall's edge, using reclining and kneeling poses to demonstrate the fabric's lightweight feel. My favorite composition is the one lying on the carpet with feet raised in the air; this relaxed stance perfectly captures the platform shoes and ruffled sock details while giving the frame a relaxed, playful vibe. For expression management, I deliberately controlled my jawline angle to avoid overly sharp gazes when looking up, striving for a cool yet gentle aura. In post-processing, I communicated with the retoucher to keep the cool industrial vibe of the venue, so while retaining background truss structures, we enhanced subject contrast to make skin tones appear transparent and natural. The entire shoot was deeply immersive; though fast-paced, many movements flowed naturally under the character's influence. Combining blue-and-white colors with an off-the-shoulder cut is extremely flattering for neck and shoulder lines, and shooting in a documentary-style convention environment loses the rigidity of studio shoots while adding vibrant dynamism. I hope to take this outfit to even more interesting scenes in the future, discovering more resonant moments between the character and reality.
