Shooting this Furina cosplay with a Custom design cosplay look outdoors at the seaside definitely required prepping many more specific items than a conventional studio shoot. The wind at the beach was incredibly strong on the day of the shoot. To ensure that the wig and that dramatic wide-brimmed hat wouldn't be blown into a mess, I used a large amount of styling spray before heading out and secured all the clips along the edges. Otherwise, whether lifting an arm or waving the wand, the hat would instantly shift out of place.
In terms of the outfit, a combination of deep blue glossy material, white lace, and tulle was used this time, offering rich layering. When sitting quietly, the skirt hem spreads out naturally, while in movements like the single-leg stance and slight turn in Figure 3, the lightweight tulle is lifted by the wind, presenting an excellent sense of motion. The diamond-shaped decorations spliced on the gloves and the wave texture on the back of the hat truly test the craftsmanship, and great care was needed during wearing to avoid friction between the metal decorations and the fabric.
When shooting this set of photos, the photographer was highly skilled at utilizing natural light. The seaside not only provided a clean, open blue sea as the backdrop, but the natural diffuse reflection also gave the overall frame a cool and translucent texture. Especially the candid back-facing shot in Figure 4, where the background blurs the distant coastal town and mountains, lends an atmosphere filled with a sense of presence.
Many times, people who are interested in this kind of outdoor shooting will ask if it's tiring. In fact, the main issue is that the wind is too strong, making it hard to stand steadily. Especially for the balancing pose in Figure 3 where I stand on one leg and hold the hat brim with one hand, I practiced it privately several times. We also had to time the shutter perfectly with the moment the white ribbon was blown up by the wind to capture a satisfying instant.
Since it is a Custom design cosplay, it doesn't entirely follow the official design from Genshin Impact, but I hope to present my own distinct interpretation of the character through the makeup and styling. Whether it's the color coordination of the makeup or the detailed decorations of the props, everything is a part of the whole. This shoot is not only a role-playing attempt but also contains a lot of thought regarding interactions with the environment for this Seaside cosplay. Every costume has a different chemical reaction in different environments, and leaving behind such frames through Cosplay photography brings a great sense of achievement.
