The entire batch of summer convention photo returns shot at the Xingman Eiga studio is finally in hand. This shoot went exceptionally smoothly overall; Photographer He was thoroughly professional and understood the combative ambiance I wanted to convey, while the set design and lighting inside the Xingman Eiga studio were spot-on. Although the prop greatsword had an intricate structure, it underwent several rounds of structural reinforcement and touch-up painting beforehand to ensure its integrity during vigorous action poses. Paired with the high-powered dynamic wind machines on set, the blowing sand and dust visuals hit their peak intensity.
Sporting red hair with a colossal greatsword tests both physical stamina and facial control; shifting through poses repeatedly inside the studio was truly heavy work. Combined with the relatively thick fabric of the coat, I broke into a full sweat after just a few sets of action shots. Yet looking at the finished photos, all the exertion was well worth it. This time, the makeup focused primarily on defining the eyes: blue-green contacts combined with balanced eye shading gave the gaze a sharp, penetrating presence under key lights. The wig was styled and set in advance with a generous coat of hairspray to ensure that even when blasted by the wind machine, it flowed naturally without turning into a tangled mess.
While choreographing movements for this set, I infused my personal interpretation of the character—whether posing with the massive blade rested confidently on my shoulder or locking into focused parrying stances, I aimed to project that self-assured, perilous aura. Convention photo captures and studio shoots are genuinely distinct: convention hall snaps rely on spontaneous natural reactions, whereas the studio affords ample time to fine-tune facial tension and physical lines. In the studio, Photographer He seized numerous refined details, including sword-gripping hand poses, garment folds, and the focal angle of my gaze; that precise command over the set was invaluable.
The wardrobe details also stand up to close scrutiny: the coat cuffs, the golden insignia along the collar, and the waist hardware were recreated with deep dedication. Pairing black shorts with thigh straps and Black stockings visually elongated my leg lines; combined with high kicks and wide lunges, my overall proportions looked remarkably tall and lean. Because high-powered fans ran continuously for hours, my eyes and the wig fibers became quite dry, but we pushed through for the sake of the visuals. The hilt of the greatsword was surprisingly heavy, requiring solid core engagement to lift one-handed, taking multiple attempts on set to dial in the ideal angle.
Certain ambient shadows in the raw convention photos leaned somewhat dark, so during post-processing, I selectively lifted shadow values to make garment textures crisper while preserving the gritty texture of dust and gravel to enhance the frame's dimensional depth. For the color grade, I selected warm yellowish-brown tones contrasted against a cool sky backdrop to create a striking warm-cool dialogue that heightened the combat urgency. As a cosplayer, every shoot is a fresh challenge: from crafting outfits and props to live execution and post-production coordination, every step demands full dedication.
