The outfit I brought to the venue this time can be said to have restored my quiet and deep impression of the character as much as possible. The pink-and-white multi-layered ruffled dress in the style of Lolita fashion, paired with the light blue long hair and iconic thin-frame round glasses, offers a visual softness and intellectuality that perfectly fits the vibe of the original setting.
In a relatively lively and noisy environment like an anime convention, it is actually quite difficult to take photos that match the character's temperament. In the pose of sitting on the floor in Figure 1, I intentionally restrained most of my movements, curling my body up with my hands placed on my knees. Since the overhead light of the exhibition hall was quite intense, paired with the reflections formed on the skirt hem by the reflector board, it exactly complemented this cool, reclusive atmosphere, making even the white tights look softer under the light reflection.
The perspective in Figure 2, sitting on a high stool, is another attempt. Because the skirt itself has a fluffy and wide silhouette, it easily bunches up when sitting. The photographer found a relatively high camera angle, which, combined with side backlighting, clearly captured the bows, lace, and facial expressions. That casual gesture next to the glasses was also meant to portray a quiet state of being immersed in one's own world while maintaining a keen observation of the surroundings.
Preparing this cosplay actually took more effort than imagined, especially securing the wig and the hat. To ensure that the hairstyle wouldn't collapse during the long shoot, I did very meticulous trimming and styling in advance. The ruffled bonnet on my head was also specially made with an inner lining for support, so that even if the venue was crowded, it wouldn't affect the overall silhouette of the styling.
I really like the texture presented in the photos—not that sunny, energetic vibe, but one with a hint of coldness and detachment. Along with the background blur brought by the wide aperture, all the visual focus in the frame is concentrated on the complex lace and character expressions. When shooting characters with such rich background settings, I usually try my best to immerse myself into that everyday state of always having a book in hand and quietly contemplating, rather than just doing a few stiff poses. As an experience of convention photos, I am quite satisfied internally with the performance of this set from clothing to light and shadow; it successfully restores the character's temperament I wanted to express through this piece of Cosplay photography.
