[Kafka Cosplay] Visiting the Honkai: Star Rail Birthday Party Scene with Firefly

Stepping into the event venue of the Honkai: Star Rail Anime convention birthday party, from the moment we arrived in the morning, the surrounding air felt filled with the warm, familiar sense of fellow fans meeting up. Today, I appeared as Firefly cosplay, while my partner beside me with an aura full of presence perfectly recreated Kafka cosplay. The line on social media earlier—"Do Stellaron Hunters occasionally go out shopping in their daily lives?"—was actually a playful little interaction, because for Hunters, walking through a crowded mall at an anime convention really counts as a unique kind of "shopping."

Speaking of the makeup and styling this time, the preparation work before every cosplay is actually quite demanding. Managing this white wig for Firefly took a lot of effort, especially the curve of the bangs and hair ends. To stay as close as possible to the airy lightness of the original character setting, handling the hair strands required extra care. As for the sailor-style jacket outfit, it wasn't just a matter of fabric selection—the grey-green plaid bow tie at the collar and those metallic-textured small badges all required precise accuracy to deliver the right feel. Paired with white tights and platform shoes, the whole outfit visually preserved the anime proportions while ensuring comfort when walking around the anime convention venue.

Walking into the shooting area together with Kafka, the atmosphere of the scene was instantly maxed out. With one of us having cool white hair and the other dashing red hair, standing together matched the unique bond that fans hold in their hearts. As we paused in the mall hallway, arm in arm or side by side, many visiting convention guests passed by, and friends who recognized us enthusiastically waved or asked for photos together as Cosplayers in the same frame. During this process, I gradually let go of my initial slight nervousness and fully immersed myself into the character. Just like the clenched fist pose in Photo 1, it was actually meant to echo a certain inner power of Firefly, which, combined with Kafka's iconic mask look, appeared both everyday and subtly mysterious.

There were many meticulously arranged photo spots on set that day, and we left a very atmospheric close-up photo of the two of us in front of the pink neon light tubes in Photo 3. Under the dreamy, hazy light, the color saturation of the wigs and makeup looked absolutely perfect, with Kafka's red hair looking exceptionally beautiful against the neon lights. In fact, when doing cosplay sharing, aside from high-definition studio photography shoots, I particularly enjoy on-site selfies like this because they preserve the authentic lively, vibrant atmosphere of the anime convention. The sunglasses on top of the head, the presence of the mask, and various small details of the outfit all feel rich with storytelling in these casual snapshots.

Photo 2 is actually my favorite—it's a mirror selfie. Through the mirror, we can fully see the complete appearance of both cosplayers from top to toe. The grey-green plaid pleated skirt paired with white tights beautifully reflected the character's uniform feel under the exhibition lighting. Carrying a canvas bag filled with merch and makeup touch-up tools, with Kafka and me each holding a merch bag from the birthday party, that feeling of shopping for beloved merch after a spree really felt like going shopping with a best friend after work. The surrounding exhibition setups, top ring lights, and floor orientation stickers formed a very memorable background.

What the entire birthday party brought me was not just a few photos, but the joy of identity recognition. As cosplayers, we are not merely recreating a character's appearance, but experiencing the expressions and mannerisms she might have within that specific space. When collaborating with Xiaoqi (the photographer) to take these photos, she excelled at capturing our subtle interactions—whether it was the dynamic raised hand pose in Photo 1 or various natural standing shots later, all allowing everyone to feel the passion belonging to anime enthusiasts.

Many people ask, what is the true meaning of cosplay? I think it's just like today: dressing in the clothes of a character you love, stepping into an offline environment with shared passions, and meeting friends who also love Honkai: Star Rail and adore Kafka and Firefly. That joy turns into a concrete memory the moment the shutter is clicked. Although wearing platform shoes and a stuffy wig all day was somewhat tiring, seeing the final rendered results and everyone's praise for our cosplay work made all that fatigue vanish instantly.

This experience at the Honkai: Star Rail birthday party gave me new expectations for my future cosplay journey, looking forward to unlocking more interesting character styling in the future to experience the unique charm of characters across different works.
