Today at Xingman Yinghua Studio, I shot a set of summer home-style JK uniform portraits. The outfit features a classic short-sleeved white sailor top detailed with dusty blue collar and cuff striping, pinned with an exquisite star badge at the lapel, tied with a deep-toned long ribbon bow at the chest, and paired with a black pleated skirt below. To harmonize the overall visual aesthetic, I wore opaque white stockings (tights), styled my hair into twintails, and accented them with red hair accessories.
The studio staging leaned heavily into a cozy, domestic mood. The accent wall was lined with black-and-white manga storyboards, while bookshelves were dressed with foreign-language volumes, a vintage radio, an antique camera, and reed diffusers. The floor was laid with tatami mats and woven rattan cushions, accompanied by two giant teddy bear plushes—one clad in a blue-and-white striped knit sweater, the other in red-and-white argyle. These props provided organic anchors for posing interactions throughout the shoot.
Photographer Xiao Yu emphasized natural composure and effortless relaxation when guiding postures. Leveraging the tatami and floor pillows, we moved through side-seated, seiza-kneeling, and cross-legged stances—hugging the oversized teddy bear on the floor, raising red envelopes aloft with both hands, or cradling a soft pink ceramic teacup beside the low table. When shifting positions, I remained vigilant about keeping the white stockings taut and smooth, avoiding unsightly fabric bunching around the knees and ankles while managing blood circulation during extended kneeling takes. Because white tights can easily blow out with harsh specular reflections under studio strobes, Xiao Yu continually repositioned lighting heads and modifiers to preserve a velvety, tactile finish.
The tailoring of the sailor top and pleated skirt held up impeccably; whether moving about or seated sideways, the skirt flare draped with natural poise, beautifully flattering body proportions. During poses, shifting my center of gravity slightly backward while casually folding or angling my legs allowed clean lower-body lines to show without looking stiff. Props like the teacup or red envelopes gave my hands and gaze comfortable resting points, steering well clear of hollow, rigid posing.
With Nanning's outdoor summer heat soaring, opting for an indoor studio shoot was an absolute lifesaver. Steady climate control preserved pristine, shine-free makeup and allowed me to focus fully on facial nuance and micro-adjustments without sweating off the base. The shoot rhythm flowed effortlessly from wardrobe checks to set management with seamless team synergy. Looking over the raw stills on the camera monitor, the true-to-life color rendering captured that serene blend of academic nostalgia and cozy domestic warmth. Wrapping up smoothly today, I couldn't be happier with how this ensemble and concept turned out.
