A lot of effort went into this Qingxiao cosplay photoshoot, from the costume to the set design. The main body of the dress is a blue-and-white modified mandarin-collar dress, featuring gorgeous gold cloud patterns along the edges and floral tassels on the chest with a great texture. The outer layer is covered with multiple layers of tulle, which spreads out gracefully when walking or sitting. To match the overall visual proportions, I wore white pantyhose paired with white pointed-toe high heels, featuring subtle garter belt details at the thighs. The wig is a light blue with a grayish-blue tone; the branch-like hair accessories on both sides and top of the head needed to be fixed very securely, and the water-drop pendant in the middle of the forehead was adjusted repeatedly to ensure it wouldn't reveal any flaws from any angle.
The transparent crystal-textured staff prop fits the character's setting of quietly nourishing sword intent. During the shoot, I avoided grand, sweeping actions, placing the focus instead on hand gestures and the focal point of my gaze. For instance, when holding the staff horizontally, the wrist should be relaxed yet alert, with the other hand forming a seal or lightly touching the collar. In the group where I half-lay on the wooden platform, the leg lines extended long, but the White stockings and high heels easily slipped on the wooden floor, so every time I changed a pose, I had to first stabilize my core strength and adjust the support point of my center of gravity to make the posture look lazy yet powerful.
The scene setup leans toward cool tones, with dark wooden screens, a circular hollowed-out background board, and wooden steps forming the basic framework. To reinforce the distant and aloof atmosphere, frosted withered branches and a large number of blue hydrangeas were arranged in the corners, with paper lanterns placed at the edges of the frame as accents. In terms of lighting, the main light source wasn't too harsh; instead, soft light was combined with blue ambient light to make the character's silhouette stand out against the dark background while preserving the dark patterns on the dress and the translucent quality of the tulle. The reflective material on the ground and the scattered white tulle created a visual effect akin to the blending of ice and water under the lens, adding a sense of layering to the entire set of photos.
As my own photographer and post-processor, I paid special attention to compositional balance during framing. The character's position in the frame shouldn't be too close to the edges, especially for full-body shots where space behind is intentionally left to establish the environment. During post-processing, the overall color tone was adjusted toward cool blue, lowering the environmental color temperature while retaining the crystal-clear texture of the skin tone and props. In handling details, there was no excessive skin smoothing; I tried my best to preserve the texture of the tulle dress and the White stockings, making the frame look both clean and realistic. The whole process was both a restoration of the character's appearance and an attempt at that state of inner cultivation, far away from the hustle and bustle.
