Tonight's bar ambiance was just right, perfectly matching the tavern setting in Zenless Zone Zero. Preparing this Velina look took a lot of thought, not only to recreate the visuals faithfully, but also to capture her presence as the Chief Administrator of Roskellypha. The costume fabric was specifically chosen as a deep blue velvet material with a soft sheen, revealing rich layers under warm lighting. Details such as the white mandarin collar, metallic buckles, and leather corset required meticulous layer-by-layer adjustments to ensure a crisp, structured fit once worn. For wig styling, the straight blunt bangs and curves around the temples were fine-tuned for a long time; paired with the specially selected pointed ear props, the profile silhouette appeared far more three-dimensional. The folding fan in hand, adorned with blue and yellow patterns on a white base, was the crowning touch—unfurling it not only enriched the composition, but also made it effortless to strike various poses true to the character.
In this vintage wooden bar counter setting, warm yellow retro pendant lights and the liquor bottles displayed in the background complemented each other beautifully. To convey the administrator's effortless composure, I designed the poses around a casual side-seated posture with legs crossed. Pairing the white lace-trimmed White stockings with silver sequined high heels created a striking visual contrast in this dark-toned environment, while the crossed leg line gracefully accentuated the feminine charm of the character. To capture the ideal texture, we experimented with lighting and shadows multiple times. The overhead light precisely illuminated the headpiece and hair strands, while the faint reflection off the bar counter added subtle highlights to the shoes, making the overall transition of light and shadow feel remarkably natural.
The most important aspects during shooting were gaze and posture; they couldn't be too stiff, but needed to convey a sense of control within relaxation. Whether partially concealing the face with the fan or standing with arms crossed, the goal was to externalize the character's personality through body language. The meticulous details of this styling—such as the white folded cuffs and the scalloped hem of the skirt—were all intended to present beautifully through every pose transition. The metallic chains and chest ornaments swayed gently with movement, providing great dynamic moments to capture on camera. The entire shoot was deeply immersive; the bar counter setting made it feel as though the character had truly stepped out of the game. Immersed in such light, shadow, and space, for that moment I genuinely felt like the administrator lingering briefly in the tavern.
Communication with the photographer was also seamless, and we made numerous adjustments to composition and camera height. For example, a low camera angle better elongated the leg line, highlighting the texture of the high heels and stockings; whereas eye-level shots captured subtle shifts in facial expression much more effectively. The rows of liquor bottles and warm orange walls in the background set a vintage tone for the entire frame, which, combined with the vintage phonograph prop nearby, enriched the narrative depth. Some compromises were made regarding the outfit's comfort so that I wouldn't tire too easily during prolonged posing. Pausing between adjusting the hem and belt to soak in the quiet, slightly hazy mood of the bar helped tremendously in getting into character.
