[Cartethyia cosplay] Wuthering Waves at Zhanjiang Comic Convention: Detailing Props from Wig to Staff

On July 11 at the Zhanjiang Comic Convention, I finally brought Cartethyia from Wuthering Waves out to the floor. Preparing this styling and wardrobe took over a full month, and walking around the venue all day was undeniably exhausting, but seeing how much everyone adored the character made it thoroughly rewarding.

Let's talk about the makeup. To recreate her icy detachment, I specifically chose blue contact lenses, layering shimmering pearl eyeshadow in shades of blue and gold across the lids. The white sigil across my forehead was hand-painted stroke by stroke using body paint pigments. The elf ears were custom-ordered beforehand, requiring scar wax blending around the seams; heavy coats of foundation and concealer were applied to match my natural skin tone seamlessly. The wig features a pale-blonde gradient, topped with a golden unicorn horn sculpted from ultra-light clay and spray-painted metallic gold—it was so long that it nearly bumped into passersby several times in the crowded convention hall.

The costuming and props were a true labor of love. The black panels and white trailing sashes were tailored from scratch after personally sourcing fabrics with a local dressmaker. The oversized navy-blue cape on my back is expansive, embellished with gilded avian wing emblems using gold thread appliques. The heaviest element was the Staff prop in hand: the dark-gray thorned silhouette was sculpted and sanded from high-density EVA foam, while the glowing cyan core combined multi-layered clear acrylic sheets with integrated LED strips. It carries substantial heft, demanding constant core engagement during posing to keep my balance steady.

Today at the Zhanjiang Comic Convention, I met so many wonderful photographers and fellow fans who were incredibly polite. However, amidst the convention floor chaos, I parted ways with one photographer without exchanging social contact info. For me, cosplaying is far more than slipping into a character's costume; it is about inhabiting their state of mind. From the flow of the wig's strands to the weathered patina on props, every millimeter of craftsmanship exists to bring 2D characters vividly alive in the 3D world. Wedging through crowded aisles clad in heavy gear and dealing with slightly ill-fitting boots was tough, but that's the raw momentum passion brings.
