I dug up this set of Clara photos shot previously; looking back, it's already a record from some time ago. When I first encountered this character, I was drawn to her iconic red-and-white coat and white hair, which led to this initial photo shoot attempt. What I'm quite satisfied with in this set is the combination of the wig and makeup—the texture of the silver-white hair strands paired with the crimson eyes tried its best to recreate that pure, cool, yet stubborn feeling from the character design.
Speaking of the costume, this red coat is truly the soul of the entire look. The iconic large white bow tie, the striped details of the lining, the tassels and ball ornaments at the waist, along with the black patchwork at the cuffs—for me, the accuracy of the recreation basically met my expectations. For the shoot, gears and old newspapers were chosen as the background. This kind of setting with an industrial wasteland vibe unexpectedly matched the tone of Belobog well, resulting in a sense of weight rather than feeling superficial.
Actually, my understanding of Clara goes beyond her appearance. Her inner gentleness despite the harsh survival environment, along with her strong determination to protect Svarog, is a highly charming aspect of her character. I actually miss the atmospheric feel of these old pictures quite a bit, so when I saw the plan saying we're preparing to reshoot it for an upcoming group shoot, I instantly became interested.
However, the biggest challenge for the reshoot is finding a way to hand-craft a Svarog. Making mecha-type props is inherently a high-level difficulty in cosplay. Right now, I'm still hesitating between using EVA foam or foam boards to build the outer shell, or directly finding a scaled-down robot model for a custom paint job. If I can make a mini version of Svarog that captures his essence and place it nearby, framing it together with Clara's red coat, the visual impact and imagery of the group shoot will definitely be maximized. Although the process of making props by hand is stressful, it fills this reshoot with anticipation. I hope to successfully 'bring it to life' before everyone gathers, so whether shooting solo or team interactions, it will bring a much richer sense of story.
