This time, I shot the Honkai: Star Rail Tingyun cosplay photoshoot in the studio of Axian from Xianshi Kanbanmusume. The entire shooting process and post-processing integration went smoother than expected. Especially this attempt to merge Eidolon chart elements with character close-ups—the final outcome truly surprised me quite a bit.
Speaking of the character Tingyun, her gentle yet slightly cunning temperament attracts me immensely, so for this Makeup look sharing detail, I specially emphasized the expressions of the brows and eyes. The emerald green colored contacts paired with long, slender eyelashes make the gaze look both clear and carrying a hint of unfathomable depth. The wig used a black base color with highlighted red ends; this gradient layering required patient combing during handling to avoid frizz, which is also a highly crucial step in recreating the character.
In terms of clothing, this white cross-collar combined with black subtle pattern splicing, along with that vivid thin red ribbon, provides strong visual contrast. The golden metal accessories and hair ornaments are exquisitely crafted, requiring careful fixing when worn. During the studio shoot, the lighting conditions were excellent, and Axian helped find some appropriate props and scene backgrounds, which beautifully offset the character's Chinese-style Xianxia feel. We repeatedly adjusted angles several times during the shooting process, hoping to find the composition that best reflects the character's stance.
For the Cosplay post-processing part, the main energy this time was placed on the synthesis of the Eidolon charts, integrating various filmed details—such as the close-up of the eyes, hairpiece details, shoulder lines, and overall facial expressions—into the starry sky background in a fractured collage format. This layout method not only increases the frame's layered feel but also visually echoes that feeling of interwoven paths within the game. Of course, I also retained some individual close-up shots from the main set, making it convenient for everyone to see more authentic details of the costume, makeup, and hair.
I have always placed great importance on the accuracy and expressiveness of cosplay shooting. This time for Tingyun, every step from styling preparation to shooting and then post-processing was meticulously planned. During the shooting process, the arrangement of props and the management of expressions required tacit cooperation with the photographer. Although Tingyun's makeup look seems elegant and refined, the polishing of eyebrows and eye makeup details actually took a long time. This included that pair of green colored contacts; to prevent them from looking out of place, I also did corresponding coordination for the eyeshadow color palette, rendering the overall visual more natural and soft.
Being able to smoothly produce this piece of work this time, I want to thank the studio for its support. Every time after finishing a photoshoot and looking through the photos on the computer again, that sense of satisfaction from injecting my own understanding into the character serves as the driving force that keeps me loving cosplay. This immersive experience ensures every character is no longer just data in a game, but a vivid individual truly existing in front of the lens. I hope to continue trying more characters of different styles in the future to explore more interesting ways to play.
