After raining on and off for a whole week, it finally cleared up this afternoon, just in time for a rooftop date and behind-the-scenes Firefly cosplay shoot from Honkai: Star Rail with a girl I really like. Although we called it a date, for cosplayers, a photoshoot date is truly the most romantic kind of date. As the joke goes, who doesn't love a girl who pilots a mecha? Today's rooftop experience was definitely top-tier.
This outfit features a blue-and-white base spliced with a brownish-yellow overshirt, creating rich visual layers. The silver-white wig paired with the signature black headband looked exceptionally soft under the twilight glow. Truth be told, the wind on the rooftop was quite strong today; standing there with long hair meant strands were dancing all over the place. However, the photographer's direct phone snapshots unexpectedly captured that dynamic, windswept beauty.
I brought along that greyish-brown plush趴趴doll as a prop. Since the theme emphasized a dating vibe, holding this plushie brought a comforting sense of embracing something beloved. Especially during close-ups, the fluffy texture added a lot of warmth and everyday life, rather than just forcing a cold, aloof expression.
Speaking of a Rooftop photoshoot, this location is definitely one of my absolute favorite spots. The TV tower in the distance points straight into the clouds, while the surrounding high-rises form wonderful foregrounds and backdrops. As sunset approached, the sky blended from deep blue into lavender, accented with pink-orange sunset clouds. This mix of warm and cool tones, combined with the city's twinkling lights, felt cinematic without any filters or edits.
As behind-the-scenes records, the mobile phone shots offered delightful surprises. Professional DSLRs can sometimes induce stiff poses, whereas candid phone captures focus more on the authentic emotional flow of the moment. The photographer had a blast today, constantly calling my name to look at the lens, which had me holding back laughter half the time. That genuine happiness carried through into the casual drape of the wig and the folds of the costume.
We previously shot many grand, intense battle scenes reflecting Firefly's brave combat lore in the game. But this time we wanted a different perspective—capturing quiet, gentle everyday moments. Who says a mecha-piloting girl can't sit on the edge of a skyscraper at dusk, holding a plushie and admiring the cityscape?
The makeup was kept very fresh, focusing on blue contact lenses to brighten the gaze and a flattering lip tint. Skipping heavy glitter allowed this minimalist makeup to harmonize naturally with the twilight mood. The neck bow and metal chain textures also looked great on camera, adding rich detail. I especially loved the way they gleamed under the sunset.
The rooftop wind grew chilly over time, but to capture every angle well, I spent plenty of time adjusting. Fortunately, the lighting and cloud cover were fantastic, making every preview a pleasant surprise. The photographer's framing was spot-on, nesting the distant TV tower right beside my shoulder as if the entire city were my personal backdrop.
As this is a preview teaser, all the shared photos are raw phone snaps. These unedited shots already carry so much atmosphere, and the relaxed joy in my eyes speaks for itself. I'm eagerly looking forward to the official DSLR cuts, as today's weather and state will surely look even more stunning than my words can convey.
Wrapping up this shoot, my biggest takeaway is that cosplay is truly at its best when created alongside like-minded, comfortable friends. There's no need to strain for rigid perfection; the most moving moments often arise from casual chats and shared laughter. The rooftop wind tousled my hair, but it couldn't blow away our passion. Despite some physical fatigue, my spirit feels deeply fulfilled, concluding today's romantic and joyful rooftop date with complete accomplishment. The cool edge of Mecha girl style and the tenderness of the city blended seamlessly, leaving behind countless cherished memories.
