This time shooting Keqing's cheongsam version, the main goal was to find a different feeling within Liyue's classical atmosphere. The vibe of Moonchase Festival had just faded, and anticipation for the Lantern Rite quietly welled up in my heart once again. This is why I chose an indoor setting filled with Chinese elements to complete this creation. The entire set features a carved wooden long daybed, plum blossom branches, and those warm yellow lanterns, making it truly feel like some corner of Liyue Harbor.
Let's talk about the costume first. The modified design of this cheongsam is actually very particular about details. The upper body splices a purple sleeveless jacket with delicate golden piping along the edges, while the knot buttons and purple tassels on the chest serve as the finishing touches, retaining the original design's recognizability while incorporating the body-hugging feel of a cheongsam. For the lower body, I especially love that blue ruffle section and the pink-purple patterned skirt hems drooping on both sides. When walking, the fabric's draping feel is fantastic, and when sitting or lying down spread out on the white plush cushion, the visual layering really stands out. The gloves extend past the elbows, making hand gestures appear more slender.
The wig part underwent minor adjustments this time; the twin tails' arc was styled quite smoothly, and the cat-ear styling on top of the head along with the white flower hair ornaments on both sides had to be firmly fixed with hairpins, otherwise they would easily tilt upon lowering the head. In terms of makeup, to match Keqing's aloof yet slightly tsundere setting, the eye makeup intensified the blue circle lenses' color saturation, with the outer eye corners swept upwards slightly, and the lip makeup selected a slightly higher-saturation red, making it look more vibrant under warm light.
During the shooting process, the folding fan prop was a huge help. Whether closed and played with in hand or unfolded to partially cover the face, it effectively solved the problem of not knowing where to put my hands. To showcase another side of the character, some adjustments were made to the poses this time. For instance, sitting sideways on the daybed with crossed legs, or standing slightly turned, the combination of high heels and Black stockings visually elongated the leg lines. Especially that semi-sheer texture on the legs, paired with white geometric diamond patterns, possessed a special aesthetic under light and shadow. I didn't want to just stand there blankly, but rather wanted to present a more daily-life-oriented Keqing through lazy sitting postures and even slightly sexy leg displays.
Regarding lighting, the studio utilized a relatively soft main light source, combined with background rim lighting, allowing the subject and the dark wooden background to be distinguished, with natural shadow transitions. Especially that circular translucent decorative window in the background; utilizing it during composition to frame the subject enhanced the depth of the frame. Post-processing also tried to preserve the skin's texture and the dark patterns on the clothing as much as possible, avoiding excessive skin smoothing, hoping to present a delicate yet authentic frame. I thoroughly enjoyed the preparation and shooting process this time; bringing a 2D anime character into this kind of real scene featuring Eastern classical beauty is inherently a fascinating thing.
