This official Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay photo set is finally out, and from preparation to post-processing, it truly took immense dedication. Considerable thought was poured into the fabric selection: to recreate the fluid, surging essence of the ocean, the outer layers incorporated extensive gradient tulle. The interplay of blue and white exhibited subtle iridescence under stage lighting, looking breathtaking. The oversized blue bow on the chest and the sleeve cuffs were structurally shaped so they wouldn't collapse during active posing. The lower half was paired with white leggings/White stockings—both to guard against wardrobe malfunctions and to faithfully match the character's design. To showcase the most flattering leg contours, I intentionally adjusted leg extension angles in tandem with specific camera perspectives, pushing the visual proportions to their utmost.
Hair and makeup were equally meticulous tasks. The pink-and-white gradient wig underwent multiple trimming sessions before striking that balance between airy bounce and neat fidelity. To recreate the luminous blue in her gaze, I tested several colored contacts, ultimately choosing high-saturation bright-blue lenses. Combined with soft pink eyeshadow and peachy-orange blush, they evoked a fragile, otherworldly translucency on camera.
The centerpiece props—the illuminated jellyfish and glowing orb—were absolute scene-stealers. The jellyfish was crafted from PVC embedded with internal LED strips; to capture the sensation of it weightlessly hovering in mid-air, in Photo 6 I actually had to hoist it with a single arm while maintaining a relaxed, serene facial expression. The light from the glowing orb was very intense and could easily blow out facial highlights in pitch-black settings. That was where photographer Xiao Xie Xin's seasoned expertise shone: by modulating shooting distance and angles alongside front softbox diffusers, he not only achieved seamless facial gradation but also dialed in the sphere's specular highlight to perfection.
We switched between several locations. The two shots amidst the sea of flowers were taken at dusk, enhanced in post-processing with starry sky effects to heighten the dreamlike atmosphere. Shooting on the rocky shores by the water was an intense physical test: the boulders were rough and jagged, yet I had to maintain an extended, relaxed posture while sitting. Wearing snug white leggings easily betrays muscle tension, so I constantly moderated my breathing and muscle engagement. To harmonize with the distant cityscape nightscape, our fill lights were adjusted to cool temperatures, wrapping the scene in a tranquil, mystical blue glow.
The retouching team truly put in extraordinary effort, especially on the night scenes where noise suppression and shadow reshaping demanded immense time. The blooming glow around the illuminated props was delicately brushed in by hand, ensuring they shone vibrantly without stealing the subject's spotlight. Merging fantasy lore with a modern urban nightscape, the lighting in every frame was meticulously polished to achieve the final presentation.
