[Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay] Guangzhou CPSP Exhibition Outdoor Shoot: Pure Moments of the Hydro Element

Before setting out for this outdoor photoshoot at the Guangzhou CPSP Exhibition, I was actually a bit anxious about the weather. Early summer sunlight in Guangzhou comes on direct and intense, but luckily the venue had plenty of greenery, and the light dapple filtering through the leaves perfectly balanced out the harshness of the bright sun.

Coming back to the outfit itself. The water-ripple texture and blue-and-white gradient are distinctive features of this costume; every detail, from the oversized front bow to the clearly layered gauze pleats on the cuffs, underwent repeated adjustments. When putting it on, I paid special attention to the position of the shoulder straps, because with an off-the-shoulder design, even a slight shift can ruin the overall balance. As for the footwear and leg decorations, the combination of platform geta and white tights was definitely an eye-catcher at the convention, but actually walking in them posed quite a challenge to stability. The cutout water-drop design on the thigh was a very special touch; to highlight this detail during the shoot, I needed to constantly adjust the angle of my leg so the posture appeared natural rather than stiff.

Photographer 羽千千_KIKU was a huge help for this shoot. During pre-shoot communication, we agreed on wanting less sharp expression and more soft body language. Thus, as you can see in the final set of photos, although standing poses predominate, I intentionally incorporated kneeling and single-knee-down postures. Kneeling naturally showcases the extension of the upper body while seamlessly stretching the leg lines, creating a vertical visual guide.

Regarding the theme of "changes in people's hearts," I personally experience this feeling whenever I interpret a character. Beneath a seemingly gentle exterior often lies a steadfast core. When cosplaying a character with such a design, simply imitating poses and expressions makes the portrayal feel flat; it requires projecting genuine emotion. Especially in a noisy convention environment, switching into character mode instantly makes the emotion in one's eyes vital. I don't want my Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay to remain at the level of physical costume recreation; I hope to convey through the lens the emotional warmth belonging to the character itself.

The day's shooting was actually far from easy. The crowd at the Guangzhou CPSP Exhibition was quite large, so we spent a lot of time searching for outdoor camera angles. Fortunately, the final photos achieved the expected level of freshness without overly relying on heavy color grading in post-production; the slight overexposure of highlights under natural light actually amplified that sense of crystal clarity.

This relatively relaxed styling actually has a benefit: it can adapt to various outdoor backgrounds. Whether it's the gray floor tiles nearby or the low green bushes behind, everything integrates well into the atmosphere of the photo. Compared to studio shoots, outdoor locations give me more freedom to improvise—whether walking around or leaning against a wall, the environment offers plenty of spontaneous inspiration.

Of course, for a highly faithful character recreation, accessory details are also crucial. The choker ornament on the neck, the golden cord knots at the cuffs, and the cascading tassel decorations on the skirt hem all add a touch of visual richness while maintaining the overall structure. Without these details, the entire outfit would look too thin and lose the character's unique demeanor.

Looking back at this trip to Guangzhou, although physically exhausted, the images preserved in front of the lens represent a period truly worth recording. Most of the time, cosplaying is not just about recreating a 2D character, but also about finding a way to converse with the character in this real world, transforming a flat design into a three-dimensional image that can be seen and felt. As for the changes in people's hearts, while it may be an unpredictable topic in certain contexts, at least at the moment those photos were taken, I poured my whole heart into expressing my understanding of Genshin Impact.

The moment the shoot wrapped up, I suddenly felt that breathing life into a character is deeply precious in itself. Gorgeous embellishments aren't needed; authentic body posture and emotion make the best harmony.
