When I first saw the concept design for this Keqing outfit, I decided to shoot a set with a completely distinct aesthetic. The Keqing everyone is familiar with is the decisive, vigorous Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing—a workaholic who handles everything firsthand. But this time, I explored a stylized fantasy combat suit concept, featuring a black metallic harness vest, a ruffled white blouse, and a colossal purple bow. The structural tailoring was far more intricate than expected; the strap placements were exceedingly precise, requiring repeated adjustments during dressing to ensure they sculpted bodily curves on camera without slipping during dynamic movements. The wig also received special styling: voluminous, silver-grey curls paired with black ribbons and white blossoms, aiming to infuse a touch of maidenly softness and mystique into Keqing's inherently crisp and pragmatic aura.
The black trident prop held in my hand was specially prepared to resonate with the dark fantasy undertones of the attire. The studio set was exquisitely opulent—an ornate European carved chaise longue, antique gilded frames, cascading white sheer drapes, and lush blooms, cultivating a dreamlike atmosphere within this Vintage court style setting. During shooting, I constantly contemplated what kind of gaze Keqing would hold if she shed her duty uniform and stepped into a mist-shrouded room filled with subtle fragrance. When previously doing Keqing cosplay, I habitually kept my gaze sharp, but this time I tried infusing a hint of languid reverie and vulnerability into that sharpness. To flatter the White stockings and leg contours, we explored poses like bending knees on the chaise longue and lifting one leg in a standing stance. Pairing White stockings with black thigh rings delivers intense visual tension; to maintain tasteful elegance, I kept my posture gracefully upright, pointing my toes even while seated to preserve fluid bodily extension.
Monochrome garments easily lose tonal depth under warm vintage lighting, so during illumination, we deliberately employed a cool accent rim light to define my silhouette, creating a sharper contrast between the black straps and fair skin. Shooting the half-crouching pose wielding the trident was particularly grueling; high heels and binding straps restricted ankle mobility, making balance tricky to hold, yet I spent ten minutes fine-tuning before discovering the most ergonomic and photogenic angle. Through this shoot, I realized body language influences character embodiment far beyond expectations. Accustomed to Keqing's classic crossed-arm or sword-drawing stances, wielding a trident for extended durations placed immense strain on my neck, shoulders, and wrists. To preserve visual lightness before the camera, I continuously stretched during breaks to ensure crisp, fluid execution in every subsequent take.
The caption reads: "When we arrive at the envisioned destination, will you still be by my side?"—this is actually my personal interpretation of Keqing. She is so strong that people often forget she is also just a young girl. While striving tirelessly for Liyue and advancing toward her vision of humanity's future, perhaps there are moments when she pauses, wishing to look back at the Traveler who has always stood faithfully by her side. This is not merely a set of photos, but an exploration and expression of her multifaceted nature. From refined makeup touches and costume fitting to repeatedly polishing each pose, every shoot is a dialogue with the character. I hope this exploration blending vintage and fantasy elements allows everyone to glimpse an extraordinary side of Keqing in Genshin Impact.
