I captured some truly rewarding convention shots at the iJoy Comic Con hall today, wearing this sporty athletic outfit for Marin Kitagawa. Bringing this look to life took plenty of meticulous advance preparation, from wig styling to garment details. The long, straight pink wig required careful trimming around the bangs and layered ends to prevent flyaways and frizz before the lens. A pair of tinted pink sunglasses rested atop the crown, injecting a touch of rebellious, carefree flair into the styling.
For the wardrobe, the combination of a black sports bra beneath a white windbreaker paired with pink checkerboard-accented athletic shorts created striking, crisp color contrast. The windbreaker was cut from a subtly reflective technical fabric that caught the intense overhead convention spotlights with wonderful texture. The criss-cross strappy details along the sides of the shorts and the bold lettering along the waistband aligned perfectly with Marin's flamboyant, energetic personality. Because this ensemble exposes plenty of skin, I specifically stepped up core and abdominal training before heading out, hoping to present peak physical condition before the camera.
The shooting location was set in the industrial zone of the exhibition center; dense clusters of circular overhead downlights and exposed steel trusses formed an authentic industrial-chic backdrop. The photographer shot from a low, upward-tilted angle, which flatteringly elongated vertical proportions while placing demanding expectations on facial nuance and body control. To avoid looking stiff, I explored various poses: resting one hand lightly on the sunglasses frame with the other hanging naturally, parting my lips slightly while directing an unblinking gaze into the lens. Later, I shifted to an open-arm pose with a slight torso rotation, which accentuated the contours of my arms and the elongated sweep of my waistline.
The greatest physical hurdle throughout the shoot was maintaining engaged abdominal definition and taut muscle tone. Continuously bracing my core while coordinating facial expressions with the rhythm of the shutter was undeniably exhausting. Yet seeing how beautifully the light and shadow sculpted my midriff and collarbones in the final frames made every bit of effort worthwhile. While the ensemble looks like straightforward athletic wear, it harbors nuanced tailoring across the fabric drape and hems, such as the monochrome checkerboard accents along the chest and shorts, which required hardly any artificial contrast boosts during post-processing.
I also crossed paths with many fellow fans at the convention who adore Marin just as much, exchanging tips on wig trimming and custom tailoring. Sharing these convention shots serves as a wonderful visual archive of my journey at iJoy.
