[Shu cosplay] Arknights: Impressions of the Earth Blending Blue and Red

From the moment we finalized the Shu cosplay plan for Arknights, I knew this would be an Outdoor photography shoot requiring immense patience. The core of the entire concept was recreating the profound weight and divinity of that land. In the woods on the shooting day, mosquitoes were everywhere; just styling the wig and making sure that massive fluffy tail stayed firmly attached took considerable time.

For this shoot, the costume featured a relatively lightweight, light-colored Japanese-style robe with an off-the-shoulder cut. Because large areas of white easily get polluted by ambient light, we ran multiple tests on location. The photographer's approach was to create a warm-and-cold contrast using tungsten lights and natural blue skylight. Later in post-processing, enhancing the red and blue tones turned the cool white outfit into an ethereal deep blue, while magenta halos filtered through the tree canopy, bringing out both divinity and earthly presence in this Anime-style photography.

In terms of posing, we chose the classic look-back over the shoulder. Holding the long blade in my right hand, letting my left hand hang naturally, and resting my center of gravity on the back foot perfectly showcased the gold-thread prints and ribbons on the back of the outfit. Keeping my neck turned steady was actually quite straining, but the resulting expression was sharp and cool. The massive beast horns and tail also added heavy weight during shooting, requiring a center-of-gravity reset after every shot.

Regarding weapon texture, I found a long unsharpened katana. To fit the lore, the hilt was wrapped with bandages, and the white base with red cord accents served as a striking highlight against the expansive blue backdrop. After trying multiple angles, we found that this setting with lush foliage in the background worked best—leaf textures paired with post-production color grading prevented the frame from looking flat. Beneath these cool tones, the land holds a deep, grounded stillness.

During color grading, we intentionally avoided excessive skin softening and exaggerated liquefaction to preserve the realistic texture of the environment. As the theme suggests, my affection for this land is woven into the effort poured into this photography. Thanks to the photographer for finding the right light in the bushes, and to myself for constantly adjusting poses to keep the off-shoulder robe from slipping. The final photo set turned out even more mysterious and serene than expected.
