Shooting this Barbie: A Fairy Secret set at the Zhongshan AS Anime convention took considerable effort from initial concept to the final frame. For the costume, a purple fabric with metallic luster was chosen—it reflects light intensely, much like silk, yet has enough structure to hold the skirt's flare without collapsing. The silver waistband and white ruffled trim added layered accents, and the skirt pleats fanned out beautifully in crouched poses. The wings on the back were crafted from hollow plastic film with a blue-pink-purple gradient bleed that caught the light when backlit; the bracket on one side had to be positioned carefully so it wouldn't break immersion from side angles. To complete the look, silver strappy stiletto sandals were chosen to elongate the legs visually, though walking and balancing in them on venue grounds required extra care.
The location was an industrial warehouse with a smooth, mirror-like floor reflecting the lines of the skirt and footwear. For this character concept, the cool tones of the industrial backdrop contrasted with the bright, iridescent colors of the costume, making the subject pop. Most shots used backlighting and high-angle downward framing to take advantage of soft ambient light filtering from the roof.
