Actually, for a character like Lan Meng, who carries strong ink-wash Chinese style outfit elements, makeup, styling, and photography often conceal many subtle details that outsiders might miss. This photo set that friends urged me to post earlier has finally maximized that atmospheric feel.

The color choices for this costume were actually very meticulous. Large areas of cyan-blue and pure white overlap, accented with soft gauze and subtle sparkling gold thread, making the overall look extremely light. Since the character naturally has an ethereal, fairy-like yet slightly languid aura, I specifically picked sheer tulle fabric for the material. Combined with ribbons at the cuffs and hem, even a gentle lift of the hand produces a very natural sense of flow. The hair accessory on top combines metal and beads; though it appears small, the wearing angle requires special attention, otherwise it easily flattens the hairstyle. For makeup, I selected a clean and translucent base, brightening the lip color slightly with an orange-red shade that echoes nicely with the surrounding warm-toned background.

Prop coordination played a major role in this photoshoot. Holding a calligraphy brush and an unrolled scroll seems simple enough, but maintaining a natural, relaxed poise in front of the lens is actually quite difficult. To portray that impression of being well-read yet casually unconventional, I deliberately adjusted my grip strength on the brush to make my fingertips look light while letting my gaze drift slightly, using eye direction to create an aura of contemplation or spontaneous freehand sketching. The writing on the scroll was calligraphy specifically drafted by the prop artist; although the full text isn't clearly legible, the texture and ink marks certainly added huge value to the photos.

The shooting environment was also uniquely suited to the theme. The set recreated the feel of a classical Chinese study, featuring dark carved wooden screens as a backdrop that provided depth without overshadowing the subject. White flowers arranged in the foreground created a soft, color-coordinated response to the blue and white outfit. A white porcelain teapot and a dark bronze censer resting on the table instantly drew one into an antique atmosphere. The crew even thoughtfully placed a small bird with blue and yellow feathers nearby, giving me the illusion of being in an ancient-style courtyard during an Ancient style cosplay session, making the entire shooting process intensely immersive.

Regarding pose direction, the photographer kept helping me adjust my shoulder and chin posture, because when wearing this kind of light gauze costume, any slight lapse can make shoulders look broad or cause forward head posture. We tried many angles, and among the final photos, these few reclining by the desk were the ones I was most satisfied with. They masked potentially stiff joints through sleeve and hand movements while maintaining an extended body line, looking natural and relaxed.

For a cosplayer, mimicking a character's appearance is merely the baseline; capturing the character's intrinsic temperament is what truly challenges a creator. The name Lan Meng itself carries ethereal and dreamlike connotations, so during the shoot I tried my best to relax my whole state, avoiding forced poses and instead imagining myself as truly someone sitting in a study writing calligraphy and sipping tea. This scenario-driven immersion ultimately allows the photos to go beyond two-dimensional visual representations and convey genuine emotion.

In terms of photography sharing, whether through the softening of light and shadow or fine-tuning of post-production tones, the final images retain a translucent, warm, yet textured quality that I personally love deeply. It avoids overly harsh light contrasts, opting instead for warm lighting to create a sense of tranquil elegance.
