Lugging these two massive weapons around the convention floor all day, this Chinese-style combat outfit for Shen Miao certainly gave me quite a workout! The golden-yellow modified top features a cheongsam-style mandarin collar, and the flared cuffs naturally billow with breezy fluidity when swinging weapons, while the wide structured obi-style belt cinches the waist snugly, carving a sharp and dashing silhouette. I particularly adore the golden dragon embroidery across the black mini skirt; these subtle nuances radiate premium tactile depth beneath convention floodlights. For the wig, I went with blunt bangs paired with a high ponytail: the bangs were styled flat and secure, allowing the ponytail to sway with spirited momentum as I moved. Makeup concentrated on defining the eyes, blended with subtle reddish-brown eyeshadow to preserve her youthful girlishness while channeling a sharp, combative resolve.
The most physically demanding aspect was undeniably the two colossal weapon props. The black-and-gold heavy battleaxe looks fiercely rugged, though its interior was hollowed out for weight reduction; once you find the center of gravity resting on the shoulder, it is surprisingly manageable. The pink-and-white spear in Photo 2 was even more elaborate, with delicate flame-shaped serrations carved along the edges, giving it substantial tactile presence in hand. However, regardless of which weapon I carried, roaming through crowded aisles required constant vigilance—with weapons this long, pivoting turns demanded ample safety clearance. When striking one-legged poses, I habitually anchor the standing leg firmly, lean the torso subtly to the side, and leverage the skirt's cut to elongate leg lines; resting the weapon hand at my side while shaping a gesture with the other keeps the stance grounded while radiating the character's athletic power.
The harsh overhead lighting in convention halls poses quite a challenge. To get striking photos, the photographer and I worked tirelessly hunting for ideal angles. Dropping to a slight low angle not only framed the towering ceiling architecture cleanly into the composition, but also elevated my commanding presence. To reflect the distinct personalities of each weapon, I consciously dropped my shoulders when hefting the heavy battleaxe to convey raw crushing weight; when switching to the pink spear, my stance shifted to something more nimble and agile. Running around with heavy weapons all day left my shoulders aching, yet immersing myself in the character felt intensely exhilarating—that dashing courage and kinetic power of a battle maiden is something rarely felt in everyday life. Meeting so many fellow fans along the way and exchanging greetings made the convention energy so special, and is one of the biggest reasons I love this styling so much.
