From the initial costume fitting to the official shoot, this Fugue ensemble underwent numerous fine-tuning adjustments. Because Fugue's wardrobe features intricate multi-layered construction complemented by an elaborate corset sash and ornaments, dressing up required hands-on assistance from our crew. In particular, the colossal gilded metal blossom resting over the hip carried considerable weight, though it sculpted an impeccably defined waistline. To channel her canonical presence from the concept art, I layered warm crimson eye shadows over the foundation to harmonize with vivid emerald contact lenses; this red-green contrast lent a penetrating intensity to my gaze. The hair remained deep-toned with reddish-brown highlight streaks, crowned by black-and-white plush beast ears. Anchored to the wig, the ears carried noticeable heft, demanding conscious neck control during takes to prevent them from tilting askew.
For props, I prepared a red-and-gold folding fan alongside delicate gilded bells. The bamboo ribs of the fan were quite stiff, requiring calculated finger strength to unfurl smoothly. To ensure aesthetic elegance on camera, I rehearsed specific hand angles beforehand—showcasing the intricate fan motifs without obstructing bodily contours. The bells were suspended from red cord, requiring precise finger placement to avoid looking tense or clumsy in tight macro close-ups.
The studio set was dressed with tremendous care: a wooden daybed layered with plush white faux-fur throws, backed by a warm amber circular moon lamp, and flanked on the left by an artisanal blossoming cherry tree setup. The lighting was dialed to warm tones, paired with theatrical haze to elevate the dreamy ambiance. For the opening sequence, I reclined diagonally across the daybed. With the skirt's dramatic high-slit architecture, sitting demanded continuous vigilance to flatter leg lines while avoiding wardrobe malfunctions. Experimenting between crossed legs and extended limbs, crossed legs visually stretched vertical proportions far more effectively. Complemented by the bells and fan, adopting a slight dreamy daze in my gaze naturally summoned Fugue's signature languid and enigmatic mystique.
A few minor hiccups occurred during shooting. The sweeping wide bell sleeves and ornate embroidery meant that shifting postures or grasping props easily pinned the cuffs beneath my legs or snagged adjacent set dressings, requiring frequent resets. Gradually, I found an organic rhythm: resting one hand lightly across my thigh or waistline while manipulating the fan's arc with the other, steering my gaze away from staring directly into the lens and focusing instead on the bells dangling from my fingertips, which made captured expressions vastly more candid and lifelike.
Sitting on the plush throws for extended takes left noticeable white lint clinging to the dark fabric, keeping us busy with lint rollers between resets to lighten the post-production retouching load. Visually, this ensemble is an absolute triumph: the deep violet foundation paired with expansive red-and-gold accents, trailing skirt hems, and fox ears cultivated an extraordinarily rich dimensional presence. As someone who loves exploring diverse styles, this shoot granted me invaluable experience in ocular expression and physical posing. Heartfelt thanks to Mi Sanhua for orchestrating the shoot and to the entire backstage crew for their patient collaboration in bringing my creative vision to life.
