[Lan Meng Cosplay] NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Mobile - Roaming Freely Under Vast Skies and Endless Seas

This Lan Meng shoot features one of my absolute main heroes whom I've played the longest in NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Mobile. The moment I first saw her design, I was instantly captured by her ethereal, graceful, yet slightly cool temperament, which inspired me to bring her to life myself.

The shoot was actually more exhausting than expected. The costume has many layers—sheer outer gauze, inner blue gradient satin, metal accents, and strappings—taking over ten minutes to put on or take off each time. To capture a sense of effortless ease, we specially chose a Chinese traditional studio set. The carved wooden lattice, white plum blossom branches, and scattered scrolls in the background complemented the character's aura perfectly. Posing for the first side-lying shot took quite a while to find an angle that was both languid and elegant, leaving my waist and arms sore. The second seated pose was much more relaxed; I was holding a brush pretending to contemplate something, though I was actually adjusting the white rug under my feet to prevent slipping.

We paid special attention to the lighting setup. The soft light from the square paper lantern on the front right gently lit my face while highlighting the blue-and-white gradient layers of the gown. Details like the white leg ribbons and shoes were also carefully adjusted, as I believe these subtle nuances add authenticity to the photos. Honestly, cosplay is more than putting on clothes and makeup; it's about embodying how the character would feel in that environment. For example, to evoke Lan Meng's easygoing and free-spirited nature, I deliberately emptied my mind during the shoot rather than overthinking my poses, which ended up looking much more natural.

While sorting through the photos, I realized that Xianxia-style photography relies heavily on hair and makeup. The height of the bun and the volume of the wig must be strictly controlled to avoid looking top-heavy. I kept the makeup subtle to preserve natural skin texture, applying a hint of subtle shimmer highlight to define facial contours under the warm light. As for props, the scrolls and brush on the floor were made of real wood and Xuan paper; although setting them up was time-consuming, the texture in the photos was infinitely better than digital props.

Every cosplay session comes with minor hiccups—like a belt coming loose midway or lighting shifting unexpectedly—but my team was super professional and quick to fix things, which is why we ended up with photos I'm truly happy with. "Roaming freely under vast skies and endless seas"—this phrase captures not only Lan Meng's spirit but also my personal experience playing NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Mobile. In the game, you can freely choose your playstyle, and in real life, you can express your passion for characters through cosplay.

Out of the set, my personal favorite is the second seated photo. It highlights the complete cut of the costume while maintaining a relaxed and natural look, with the white plum branches and warm ambient light creating a wonderful traditional charm. This Lan Meng attempt gave me more insights into Chinese-style cosplay, and I look forward to challenging other unique characters in the future.
