The core of this Genshin Impact Raiden Shogun cosplay showcase is to explore how to recreate the character's temperament through simple props and indoor lighting, in addition to showcasing the character's costume, hair, and makeup. For the selection and styling of the wig, I chose a long-bangs wig with blue-purple gradient layers. To get rid of the highly reflective plastic feel common in wigs, I used a large amount of loose powder for a matte treatment before shooting, just to let the hair strands present a more natural soft-mist texture under the light. The thick braid on the left side is the soul of this look; when styling it, one must not only maintain the tightness of the braid but also allow for a light drape, preventing the wig from looking too heavy.
In terms of clothing, this light purple cross-collar main dress features delicate classical patterns, forming a sharp color contrast with the black high collar and the red rope knot on the chest. The transparent bead embedded in the center of the rope knot adds a touch of refinement, while the red tassels and golden piping enrich the layers of the entire outfit. To align with the character's divine traits, while preserving the basic structure of the Japanese style clothing, I paid close attention to the tailoring of the lapel and neckline to ensure that the silhouette of the upper body is crisper and more upright. The golden hair ornaments paired with the flower embellishment on the right side look even more noble against the purple background.
The "prize-free guessing prop" mentioned in the post is this golden bell with a red rope knot in my hand. This prop was actually assembled by myself using off-the-shelf small accessories and hot melt glue. The length of the metal chain and the way the red rope is wound have been adjusted multiple times to ensure it doesn't look out of place when held. Holding this bell during the shoot was both to fill the empty hand space and to use the light visual weight of the bell to balance the breathing room of the entire frame. To find the perfect angle for holding this bell, I repeatedly tried the shutter many times, finally capturing a moment that has both strength and a casual feel.
The phrase "apologies for everything" stems from my slight lack of confidence when recreating the character's demeanor. The character of Raiden Shogun carries a complex sense of majesty and contradiction, but for this shoot, I chose a more gentle and slice-of-life approach, without using extremely exaggerated combat movements. I hope to present the quiet side of the character in private through such a soft manner. This apology is actually a spur to my own state; progress in cosplay usually lies in the process of constant deconstruction and rebuilding.
The lighting that day was soft indoor natural light. I intentionally moved close to the doors and windows to shoot with side-backlighting, allowing a faint halo to rise around the purple edges of the wig, with the white wall and door frame as a background that beautifully set off the contrast between the light-colored clothes and the black collar. For makeup, I used purple eyeshadow and dark eyeliner, combined with contouring to enhance the three-dimensionality of my face, making my features look colder and deeper. Although I couldn't fully achieve a game character recreation of the Raiden Shogun's dominance when wielding her sword, this cosplay practice made me more confident in handling Japanese style clothing. Shooting is a process of constant trial and error; maintaining a sense of relaxation in front of the lens naturally yields better results.
