[Furina cosplay] Genshin Impact: Arrival of the Water God, a Gorgeous Record of Black-and-White Contrast

I decided to complete this outfit documentation of Furina using these close-ups and half-body shots. Attaching the wig, putting on the icy-blue contact lenses, and adjusting the white silk bow and the dark blue teardrop gemstone around the neck brought the overall vibe to life. This shoot actually had its plan and makeup direction set a long time ago, aiming to present a gorgeous aesthetic while retaining a cool, detached temperament.

Regarding the "Nymph Award" and the meme "the world is just one giant Identity V" mentioned in the post, I indeed thought of some crossovers during the shoot. Although this is a Water God cosplay / Furina cosplay from Genshin Impact, the outfit's color scheme and lace details, along with the black leather gloves I added later, do create a subtle cross-game vibe from certain angles. Regardless, once wearing this costume and standing in front of the lens, I felt a strong urge to convey the feeling of "Traveler, let me protect you." After all, cosplay isn't just about putting on clothes, but about drawing closer to the character's personality and circumstances.

When preparing this styling, wig care was a major focus. The white strands feature an icy-blue gradient highlight, accented by pearls and delicate chains; these fine elements create wonderful depth and sheen under the lights. As for makeup, instead of using overly heavy eye shadow, I focused on highlighting the brightness of the contact lenses and defining the lower eyelid, making the eyes look deeper and more spirited. Paired with a natural lip tone, the overall look delivers a soft yet exquisite doll-like feel.

What's most worth talking about regarding the costume is the neckline styling. Gold trim, a white lace inner shirt, and the long, glossy black gloves I added in the end created an ultimate contrast between black and white. This contrast upholds the character's imposing aura without losing her innate elegance. During the shoot, to showcase the flow and texture of the garments, we experimented with several light-and-shadow layouts. Close-up shots allow viewers to clearly see the details of the pearls and teardrop gemstones, while half-body shots focus more on the visual impact of the black gloves against the white bow.

Outfits featuring white fabric with gold trim and pearl embellishments can, in a way, severely test the wearer's posture and demeanor, as slight carelessness can make the look appear bulky or cluttered. To make this costume fit the silhouette better, I specifically adjusted the tailoring around the shoulders and chest during styling, allowing a small sliver of skin from the collarbone to the neck to be exposed, which lightened the overall look significantly.

Regarding the gloves, many people might wonder if long, glossy leather gloves are practical during Cosplay photography. Indeed, when adjusting the bow or crown, leather gloves create friction. However, when we raise our hands and let the camera capture them—especially the ruffled lace spliced at the dark cuffs along with the pearl bracelet—you immediately feel that all those minor hassles were well worth it.

The photoshoot went quite smoothly overall; although it required continuous retakes to catch the focus of my gaze, the atmosphere was very relaxed. The photographer centered on capturing a look that was both innocent and carrying a hint of obsession. In front of the camera, I tried to imagine myself in her shoes, wanting to protect someone or striving to earn a name for what I care about.

Many people in cosplay overly pursue so-called "character accuracy," but I feel character accuracy isn't merely a 1:1 replica of props and items; it is much more about the inner sense of conviction. As long as you wear the outfit, immerse yourself in the character's narrative, and convey the emotion you want to express to your audience, that constitutes a successful interpretation. In presenting this look, I incorporated more of my own understanding of the character—such as that trait of appearing aloof on the outside while actually being soft on the inside—which was precisely the direction I wanted to explore during this shoot.

Overall, this was a fantastic photoshoot experience. The interweaving of white and blue, the golden accents, and the glossy black gloves combined to form a highly satisfying visual presentation of Anime-style fashion. I also hope to have more interesting attempts in the future to portray different styles and stories.
