When shooting this costume, rather than perfectly replicating the blue-and-white maid outfit from the alternate world setting, I wanted to try a different spin on Rem—fittingly echoing that classic quote, \"If true love had a color, it must be blue.\" As a hugely popular character in Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World, Rem has left many iconic impressions in everyone's hearts, and this Cosplay photography attempt serves as a little parallel-universe imagination. Here she slips into an Anime-style uniform with police aesthetic elements, presenting a fresh look within the frame.

The center of gravity for the overall look lies first in the light blue short wig. In handling the wig strands, I preserved Rem's signature straight bangs as much as possible, while the dangling side plush decorations were crafted from soft white material, resting right against her cheeks—not only framing her face to look smaller, but also adding a touch of the character's inherent loyalty and devotion. The white peak cap on top was custom-matched; its dark blue brim and golden badge at the center serve as visual focal points, nicely balancing out the light hair shade and rendering overall head-to-body proportions even more harmonious.

The upper outfit features a light blue short-sleeved uniform shirt with a tailored, form-fitting cut, paired with a dark blue tie and symmetrical dark blue paneling. This layered stacking of blue shades echoes the character's signature palette while delivering crisp light-and-shadow structure under nighttime strobe flashes. Golden buttons on the chest pockets act as a finishing touch, preventing the outfit from looking overly casual while adding premium texture. The bottom features a glossy dark blue leather skirt, which, when cinched at the waist, beautifully defines body proportions while providing a clean dividing line for camera composition.

As a crucial component of this look, the sheer black tights played a pivotal role in the overall visual impression. Because it's paired with a mini skirt, the negative space in styling visually elongates proportions, while the sheer black texture creates a nice material contrast against the glossy leather skirt. I intentionally adjusted my standing pose to complement the briefcase prop, adding a grounded composure to the frame that made the character's aura appear calm yet playfully charming.

Shooting this night street photography set presented tight lighting conditions. In completely dark outdoor environments, strobe flashes served as the sole illumination source. To prevent facial features from looking washed out white, the team placed lights at off-camera side angles, preserving facial contours while creating lovely rim light along hair edges and plush ear ornaments. The briefcase resting on the ground was placed somewhat casually at first, but later proved to perfectly fill the composition gap in the lower left, conferring great visual balance upon the whole shot.

Speaking of the character herself, Rem is a figure no cosplayer is unfamiliar with. Her iconic hair color and subtle expressions are exceptionally tricky to capture—especially that trait of being outwardly docile and quiet yet immensely steadfast at heart. To capture these nuances, I didn't force smiles during shooting, maintaining instead a focused yet softly gentle expression, hoping it would blend seamlessly with the dark blue Anime-style uniform to project a reliable and cool temperament into the camera lens. Night air carried a slight chill, but keeping the leather skirt flat required constant belt adjustments while standing—a minor hassle necessary for this crisp look.

In truth, much of Cosplay's joy stems from placing a familiar character into an unconventional context. This \"police style\" Rem cosplay outfit didn't stray from her core blue-and-white color palette, yet swapping out her original maid dress fundamentally shifted her temperament. This modification isn't about subverting the character, but rather extending her multi-dimensional presence—making one feel that even if she isn't standing outside a maid cafe, but strolling down night streets, she shines with her own brilliant presence all the same. If true love has a color, this glowing blue illuminated in the night light might just be the brightest hue in the heart of everyone who adores her.
