For these outdoor Convention photos from Hatsumonogatari Anime Convention Day 2, I chose a white Qipao look. The short light blue hair paired with white flower headpieces, feather accents, and an embroidered round fan gave off an overall very refreshing vibe. Since I wasn't wearing stockings, leg lines were optimized primarily through thigh rings and black high heels during the shoot. This session was framed by the stone railings along the lake, where natural light reflecting off the water surface provided great side fill light on the face.
The shooting process really tested posing guidance. Because the tailored modified Qipao has a form-fitting cut, poor standing posture easily makes hips look wide, requiring frequent angle adjustments. A very practical tip is using railings for support—such as extending a leg onto the railing and leaning body weight back, which makes the silhouette look taller and more slender. In addition, pointing the instep as straight as possible, complemented by the heels, visually elongates the calves significantly, especially in full-body shots.
The white Qipao fabric features subtle jacquard patterns and sheer spliced panels that flutter in the breeze; capturing dynamic skirt movements required great mutual coordination with the photographer. How the round fan is held is also key—placing it across the chest or letting it dangle naturally by one's side enriches body language and prevents hand stiffness. The outdoor surroundings outside the convention venue were somewhat cluttered, taking some time to find the right backdrop, but luckily the lighting was superb, producing an exceptionally clear and translucent overall texture.
The waistline and neckline designs of this styling are quite distinctive; turning slightly sideways not only flatters the figure but also highlights the cut-out lace details of the garment. In post-processing, the original base tones were largely preserved while contrast was lowered slightly to achieve an airy, lightweight visual feel. Overall, when shooting form-fitting outfits outdoors, mastering body lines is far more important than just smiling, requiring continuous adjustments to one's center of gravity before the camera. I was fortunate to recreate this concept and received plenty of tips from photographers; the entire process was deeply rewarding and a truly special photoshoot experience.
