The theme of this shoot is a Fan-made design cosplay of Rem featuring a Blue cheongsam and White stockings. Since significant modifications were made to the original design, I posted an OOC apology in advance and hope everyone enjoys this personal creative attempt. Photographer Xiao Xiexin was in charge of the shoot, and we chose a bamboo forest at night for our outdoor location. The dark green backdrop paired with the cool tones cast by the flash perfectly complemented the ambiance of this blue outfit.
Custom-tailoring this light Blue cheongsam in modified satin took quite some time. The fabric reflects light gorgeously under strong illumination, with lace trim deliberately added to the hemline and tassels accenting the waist, visually flattering the silhouette. To complement the overall cool blue-and-white palette, I carefully coordinated the accessories, pairing the dress with over-the-knee White stockings and high heels. The white lace-up arm gloves echoed the frog closures at the neckline, while the blue stripes on the folding fan matched the main color of the costume. As this is a Fan-made design cosplay, I kept Rem's iconic short blue hair and twin buns, allowing the Eastern-style garments to grant the character a distinct aura while preserving character recognition—which is where the joy of fan-made designs lies.
The main challenge during the shoot was controlling poses and emotional expression at night. Photo 1 shows a pose sitting on a bamboo bench, requiring the body to stretch out naturally—keeping one leg flat and bending the other to accentuate leg lines—combined with looking back while holding a fan. We had to ensure both an aesthetically pleasing angle for covering the face with the fan and a relaxed hand posture, so this pose took quite a while to refine. Photos 2 and 3 feature standing poses; ordinary standing can easily look stiff, so we deliberately framed them with hands crossed over the chest, adding a slight backward lean and side profile lines. Paired with the tension of standing in high heels, this better showcased the visual impact of long legs in White stockings. Lighting in a bamboo forest at night is tricky to control, so special thanks go to Xiao Xiexin for constantly adjusting camera angles and reflector positions on set, preserving rich layers of facial highlights and shadow details, which allowed me to showcase this outfit design with greater confidence.
Throughout the shoot, I continuously adjusted my gaze and body language to better fit the cool, nonchalant temperament of this Fan-made design cosplay. Because flash lighting is quite direct, blinking or eye discomfort occurred frequently, but luckily everyone was patient, taking it frame by frame. This attempt also gave me a fresh understanding of Fan-made design cosplay. In the past, I always clung strictly to canon designs, afraid of deviating even slightly from the original concept. However, designing the details myself and selecting costumes and props based on the character's core essence not only fueled my creative passion but also let me experience the fun of derivative creation.
Although it is just a few photos, every single detail reflects everyone's hard work. The bamboo forest under the night sky was exceptionally quiet with almost no other sounds; this immersive feel helped me get into character quickly. Whether adjusting my seated posture on the bench or controlling arm tension while standing, I wanted to bring out the full texture of this costume.
