[Unicorn Cosplay] Pure White Dress & Lavender Hair: Interpreting Ethereal Anime cosplay Dreams

This shoot was part of our Blue sky photobook creative project. When conceptualizing it early on, we wanted a setting that felt both sacred and dreamlike, ultimately choosing a European vintage interior featuring vaulted ceilings and stained-glass windows. To match this grand atmosphere, I prepared this pure white strapless mini-dress.

The dress itself is exceptionally rich in detail. The strapless bodice actually has built-in boning, keeping sharp, crisp lines before the camera. The silver embroidery, black bows, and purple gemstone at the waist formed a flawless color harmony with my lavender wig. The sleeves feature a detached flared bell-sleeve design; though wonderfully flowing on camera, they severely test physical poise—you cannot let them obstruct your face, yet you must keep their sweeping curves alive. I added long black ribbons to the cuffs to anchor visual weight while reinforcing a classic monochrome contrast. Below, I paired White stockings with white shoes adorned with black bows, where even the splash of red on the soles was an intentional stylistic touch. A black choker with metallic pendants adorned my neck, ensuring the collarbone expanse did not look bare in these Stockings.

For the wig and makeup, to capture that Anime cosplay vibe, I specifically chose a cool-toned lavender wig with moderate luster to prevent plastic glare. A delicate ahoge cowlick was pinched into the crown, and the straight blunt bangs were carefully set. In makeup, purple tones were blended into the eye makeup, paired with red lips to look extra vibrant and lively before the camera.

The first shot used a three-quarter back angle, primarily to showcase the dynamic sweep of the sleeves and skirt hem. This pose requires slightly turning the torso, placing weight on the back foot, while keeping the jawline defined upon glancing back. The detached sleeves expanded beautifully at this angle, creating an airy breathability when hit by light filtering through the background windows. We tried multiple takes just to freeze the perfect arc of the fluttering skirt.

The second shot is a full-body frontal showcase. Standing before the staircase, gently lifting the skirt with both hands framed the garment's silhouette cleanly while displaying the cascading tiers of lace. Lily-of-the-valley lamps flanking both sides and blue diamond-patterned floor props enriched the framing layers, naturally directing visual focus onto the figure.

For the third shot, we boldly ventured into a high-angle overhead perspective. Lying on the carpet with legs slightly raised, cradling a white plush swan and holding a bouquet. This angle demands rigorous facial control: downward angles can flatten facial features, requiring a slight tuck of the chin and an innocent, wide-eyed gaze. White stockings in this overhead angle flatter leg lines beautifully, pairing with white shoes for a clean, cohesive palette.

Regarding lighting, ambient conditions were quite intricate. We primarily harnessed natural daylight through the stained-glass windows, supplemented by side reflectors for fill light, preserving environmental spatial depth while keeping facial illumination soft and even. The white sheer fabrics revealed rich, dimensional textures under side lighting.

To me, materializing a 2D anime concept into tangible reality demands meticulous attention to detail at every step. From the orientation of skirt lace to every individual strand of the wig, to prop styling and poise refinements, these daily disciplines form the backbone of the image.
