From initial design sketches to final tailoring, this Azur Lane Cheshire Cosplay outfit took nearly a month of back-and-forth refinements. For this shoot, I went with a white-and-blue modified Qipao design, aiming for a visual presence that feels both coolly serene and delightfully playful.
The bodice features a halter-neck mini dress silhouette with a teardrop cutout along the neckline and chest, bordered by navy piping and frog closures to sharpen its linear contours. The fabric is layered with white lace and pale blue floral embroidery. The sleeves are detached, oversized bell sleeves constructed from cascading layers of sheer tulle and flounced ruffles. To keep these voluminous sleeves held upright, my wrists and arms had to exert steady isometric strength so the lace cuffs could blossom like open petals before the lens.
A navy sash around the waist is accented with floral details, while long ribbons draping along the hips are strung with golden bells and blue tassels, injecting dynamic motion into each stride and pose. Staying faithful to her Kemonomimi girl persona, the headpiece features grey animal ears adorned with blue-and-white lace blossoms and flowing navy ribbons. The wig is a short, blunt-bang cut in charcoal grey, highlighted along the bangs and face-framing strands with vibrant bright cyan streaks. For makeup, all focus was placed on the eyes—wearing vivid blue contact lenses paired with generous washes of pinkish-red eyeshadow along the outer corners to give my gaze arresting, luminous depth.
The studio set was styled with tatami mats and Chinese folding screens, flanked by blossoming peach branches in the background to add dimensional depth. For props, I prepared a semi-sheer paper umbrella, a lace folding fan, and wooden serving trays. Because the dress features an open back and a high hemline, I favored profile angles and over-the-shoulder looks to naturally highlight back lines and the delicate White stockings along my legs. Poses holding the parasol and trays were continually recalibrated, ensuring extended arm lines while matching finger placement and prop tilt seamlessly to the frame's composition.
Regarding the fabric, subtle tonal contrasts between the lace trim and base fabric added gorgeous visual texture on camera. Trimming the wig also took considerable patience to ensure the beast ears sat seamlessly along the crown without visible seams. The White stockings were chosen in a semi-sheer denier that harmonized with the tatami texture, catching light beautifully in foot and leg close-ups. Wearing this outfit under studio lights was undeniably stuffy, as extensive lace and tulle offer little breathability, and holding up the bell sleeves kept my arms perpetually tense. Yet seeing the strobes pierce the gauzy fabric to illuminate those blue-and-white layers made every bit of physical strain completely worthwhile. Rather than forcing rigid poses, we focused on capturing candid, spirited energy. Between takes, I reviewed original game illustrations to weave that quintessential cat-like mix of tsundere aloofness and clingy sweetness into my gestures, hoping everyone can feel the heartfelt dedication poured into these detail-packed photos.
