Today at the anime convention, I completed this photoshoot portraying Ram from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. This time, I'd like to share the costume, makeup, and prop details and handling insights for this styling. The wig was a custom-ordered short Pink wig; to match the character's fluffy volume, I trimmed the bangs and thinned them out myself. The purple cross and spider-web antenna hair accessories on the side of the head, though intricate in appearance, were handcrafted using shrink plastic and wire mesh. Paired with red colored contacts, the fidelity of the eye expression was substantially elevated.
In terms of makeup, a matte foundation was used to minimize shine. Eye makeup was the main focus: I traced the eye contours with a reddish-brown eyeliner, extending the wings slightly outward, and combined it with reddish-toned blush to give facial contours more three-dimensional definition. The beauty mark below the right eye was the finishing touch. The costume was a custom Maid outfit cosplay with white ruffled trim; the black bow at the neckline and black straps provided sharp visual contrast, while a slightly stiffer lace fabric was chosen for the chest to ensure the ruffled structure held its shape while walking around the event venue.
The on-site lighting was quite complex: the overhead strip lights were typical cool-toned convention fixtures, which easily cast a greenish tint on the skin. Therefore, during post-processing, we focused on white balance calibration to achieve natural skin tones while brightening the somewhat muted pink hair. During shooting, we avoided cluttered crowds as much as possible, using depth of field to blur out bystanders resting on the right, keeping the composition tidy.
The shooting went smoothly overall, though the spider-web hairpiece was a bit prone to slipping off and required constant clipping. Walking around the convention, many fans of the series recognized the character and chatted with me. From putting on the outfit to wrapping up the shoot took a few hours; because the headpiece and wig carried noticeable weight, taking them off felt like a huge relief. Overall, the atmosphere of these Convention photos met expectations wonderfully, bringing out the character's signature blend of playful cuteness and subtle aloofness.
