This time I'm sharing a set of Rem cosplay photos taken a long time ago. A casual chat with a friend yesterday made me dig out these old photos again. I originally intended to keep them hidden away, but since it was brought up, I decided to share them with everyone to reflect on my state back then.
Regarding the character Rem from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, her unique light-blue short hairstyle and iconic blue-and-white Maid outfit have always held a very special place in my heart. To recreate the character's temperament as much as possible, a lot of thought went into preparation. The wig was selected in a specific shade of light blue, trimmed with straight bangs and sideburns fitting her design, striving to bring the hair texture and visual look close to the original work.
Clothing and prop details were the top priority for this shoot. This Maid outfit was one of the most finely crafted pieces I owned at the time—the neckline featured layered lace ruffles paired with a slender black ribbon bow, while shoulder frills made the overall look both sweet and neat. 3D animal ears on the headpiece were soft and cute, recreating a fluffy feel, while custom pink "X"-shaped hair clips on the side and dangling long red ribbons served as crucial elements boosting character recognition. Red ribbons reflected light beautifully, adding a touch of vitality to static frames.
To fit Rem's anime vibe in Anime-style photography, I wore bright sapphire-blue contact lenses paired with a clean, light base makeup and glossy lip gloss, focusing on accentuating eye depth. The shooting location was a room with dark wood backgrounds, naturally carrying a quiet, vintage feel. The photographer skillfully used a large aperture, completely blurring background wood textures into soft color blocks, fully concentrating visual focus on body movements and delicate fabric textures.
The remark mentioned in the post saying "the left face is average, but the right face is gorgeous" was actually just playful banter among friends, not to be taken seriously. Photography itself is an art of light, shadow, and angles—changing light sources or slightly adjusting head tilt alters camera tension completely, producing vast differences in results. Reviewing these photos myself, whether looking wide-eyed into the lens or tilting my head down in quiet reflection, each carries its own atmospheric beauty worth savoring, without needing to dwell over which angle fits public aesthetics better.
For me, the joy of cosplay lies not only in the moment you put on clothes and wigs to step into another character's world, but also in tacit cooperation with the photographer during shooting. For example, when clasping hands gently, how posture conveys Rem's subtle emotions of restrained determination; or when closing eyes, how body relaxation demonstrates her quiet side. This process of re-interpreting characters is often far more meaningful than just striking pretty poses.
Actually, these Rem cosplay photos were shot quite a while ago. Sharing them now is purely to record the dedication and effort put in back then. No matter how much time passes, seeing these photos pulls my thoughts right back to that room on the day of shooting, remembering the temperature of light and the feeling of instantly getting into character after putting on the wig.
