[Laffey cosplay] Azur Lane Laffey Qipao Bunny: Chinese-Style Photography

The finished photos from today's Laffey Qipao bunny shoot are finally here! Preparations took quite some time, mainly because I wanted to blend Laffey's soft, cuddly cuteness and subtle sensuality with traditional Chinese aesthetic elements. For the wig, I selected a fluffy white style paired with a set of plush bunny ears. The outfit is a modified Qipao featuring white fabric accented with gold thread embroidery, with both the shawl and skirt crafted from sheer, lightweight tulle that creates gorgeous dimensional layering whether walking or seated.

For gear, we used the Canon R5 II paired with the RF 24-70mm f/2.8 lens—a combination that performed effortlessly throughout the shoot. The R5 II's autofocus system is genuinely formidable; especially when shooting 2D characters with intricate eye makeup, the eye-tracking AF locked onto the eyes tenaciously even in low light or behind gauzy sheer curtains, ensuring a remarkably high keeper rate. The 24-70mm focal range proved exceptionally versatile for indoor studio work: the wide end captured the carved wooden windows and red maple surroundings, while zooming to 70mm at f/2.8 compressed the background beautifully, separating the subject from the busy calligraphy drapes and candle stands with a silky, natural bokeh falloff.

To evoke a classical, dreamy ambiance, the set was adorned with ample rice paper rolls, candleholders, and red maple foliage. Such warm lighting heavily tests a camera's auto white balance, yet the R5 II delivered precise color rendering under complex light sources, producing radiant, translucent skin tones straight out of camera. During the shoot, I consciously adjusted my seated posture to showcase the white Stockings and leg lines within static poses. Because the Qipao features waist cutouts alongside expansive white fabrics, we placed a softbox as the key light to prevent highlight clipping and detail loss, supported by side-backlighting to carve out contours and candlelight point sources to introduce rich foreground layering.

The studio was actually quite warm, and wearing the plush bunny ears and heavy wig grew stuffy after a while. However, seeing the backlit strands of hair glow vibrantly on the monitor made every hardship completely worthwhile. In post-processing, we preserved the cozy, warm orange-gold tones to accentuate skin luminosity, endowing the entire frame with a hazy, timeless charm reminiscent of lingering in days past. I hope everyone enjoys this Laffey set infused with Mid-Autumn moonlit elegance.
