[Reze Cosplay] Damp Longing: Frozen Moments in the Rainy Night and Street Corners

During last year's rainy season, we completed this Reze cosplay photoshoot in the damp air. Coincidentally, as news broke regarding the movie release of the Chainsaw Man Reze Arc, these photos stored away for so long can finally be shared as a special tribute.

We didn't intentionally pick a bright sunny day for shooting, choosing instead an overcast, rainy day lasting from afternoon through late night. This low-saturation gray tone naturally fits the character's detached vibe hovering at the edge of reality.

The outdoor locations chosen were very concrete everyday corners. Inside the laundromat, the warm glow of dryers contrasted with the dark indoor lighting. In the captured moments, leaning on the machine edge with a vacant expression naturally conveyed everyday casualness and alienation without needing much acting—just standing quietly was enough. For reflections in the bathroom mirror, a large-aperture prime lens was used, relying on mirror lights as primary illumination to capture candid movements of adjusting the choker and bow tie, adding a slice-of-life realism to the frame.

Near the street corner vending machine, cold white light emitted from the machine illuminated my face and body contours, while the dark night behind served as a background, creating a late-night street wanderer vibe. Finally, shots by the outdoor stairwell and lush garden flowers represented the most emotionally expressive portion of the shoot. Subtle ambient light outlined body silhouettes against dark plant walls, where the reddish-purple wig and pink blossoms created an ambiguous harmony.

Regarding costume styling, Reze's seemingly simple sleeveless white shirt actually places high demands on tailoring and texture. Paired with a black long trailing bow tie and a leather choker with a metal ring, the visual focus shifts upward seamlessly. Black shorts combined with over-the-knee black stockings and loafers in this Black tights outfit not only elongate lower-body proportions but also suit the cold, slightly lazy vibe of this set. The wig was specially styled into a loose, unraveled low ponytail, with bangs kept messier than standard characters to convey a damp feeling after wind or rain. To keep the shirt neat during shooting, we frequently paused to adjust the collar every few sets, testing our patience.

It has always been difficult to summarize Reze with a single emotion: coldness, gentleness, perplexity, and ultimate decisiveness coexist in her, a multifaceted nature that is challenging to capture on camera. The photographer was adept at subtracting clutter using natural and ambient lighting, leveraging camera language to aid expression. Reviewing these photos from last year, that quiet stillness still resonates through the images. Free from complex props, relying purely on costume, location, demeanor, light, and shadow to construct her distinct realm—this is perhaps the representation closest to the original spirit of Chainsaw Man in my heart.
