This Anime convention finally allowed me to bring my long-awaited Mash cosplay to life. Ever since I got this costume, I've been pondering how to balance her capable yet gentle temperament. After all, Mash has a very unique setting—her inner purity and resilience in battle need to strike a delicate equilibrium. To stay true to her character design, I deliberately chose a thicker fabric for the white-and-gray paneled jacket, preventing it from looking thin under outdoor sunlight and keeping the silhouette robust. Inside, it's paired with a classic white shirt and a patterned red tie, while the lower half features a black pleated skirt and Black stockings as the core highlights of the outfit. For footwear, I chose black round-toe loafers, which not only make moving around the Anime convention grounds easier but also elegantly flatter the leg lines.

Styling the wig took a lot of effort. The pink bob needed trimming to fit the facial curves, keeping the bangs thick without appearing heavy. I also added a pair of thin round-rimmed glasses, which are key props for highlighting the kohai's intellectual charm. The makeup didn't feature overly dramatic changes, focusing instead on eye makeup with earth-toned bases and a subtle shimmer to keep the gaze clear and translucent. The base makeup emphasized a clean, skin-like fit paired with a natural lip color to avoid a heavily made-up look, as Mash naturally leans towards simplicity and purity.

The shooting location was chosen as the open-air plaza outside the Anime convention. The sunlight that day was extremely intense, almost glaring. Such lighting is a double-edged sword—while prone to heavy facial shadows or local overexposure, harnessing natural light well yields a remarkably translucent texture. The photographer was very experienced, having me stand in shaded areas or against architectural shadows while utilizing backlighting or side-backlighting. To showcase the kohai's approachable warmth, the poses avoided overly hardcore combat stances, favoring scenes like kneeling on one knee to adjust shoes and socks, glancing back over the shoulder, or squatting down to interact with the lens. The candid moment of lowering my head to adjust my glasses was captured, and I really love the quiet profile lines in that shot.

Capturing the expression of the Black stockings and legs was something I paid close attention to this time. To avoid looking too deliberate, I used the dynamic flow of the pleated skirt to naturally shade parts of it while revealing the lines of the calves and ankles. Paired with loafers, the overall leg proportions appear much sleeker. While kneeling on one knee, shifting the center of gravity slightly back and bending the other knee slightly maximizes visual leg elongation. Squatting requires even more core strength; keeping the back straight to avoid hunching and ensuring arm movements flow naturally prevented any stiffness. The entire shooting process was quite tiring, especially constantly adjusting poses under the blazing sun, but seeing the final results—the fidelity and visual texture—made every effort truly worthwhile. This kohai outfit also won recognition from many fellow fans at the Anime convention, and chatting about our shared understanding of the character created a wonderful atmosphere.
