[Cheshire Cosplay] Black and White Maid Outfit from Azur Lane: Cool-Toned Studio Photoshoot

This time I cosplayed Cheshire from Azur Lane, preparing a classic black and white Maid outfit. Not only is this the character's iconic attire, but the black and white contrast combined with blue hair highlights makes the overall image pop brilliantly in a cool-toned photo studio. When planning this shoot, I specifically chose a studio backdrop dominated by blue and purple tones, hoping to use a refreshing cool background to set off the character's lively agility.

Let's talk about the specific details of this costume first. The upper body features a black sleeveless off-the-shoulder design with white lace ruffles spliced along the edges. A custom choker was made for the neck, adorned with a silver heart-shaped pendant—a highly recognizable accessory in Cheshire's look that beautifully accents the broad black neck area. A small patterned name tag was pinned at the collar, adding a playful touch of interactivity to the overall look. Detachable arm sleeves were worn on both arms; the black-and-white paneled fabric featured soft lace frills, secured at the cuffs with black satin ribbons that fit comfortably without leaving noticeable red marks. Long white gloves were worn on the hands, featuring exquisite lace detailing at the fingertips and wrists.

The lower skirt consists of cascading layers of white ruffles, accented externally with black cross knots and long ribbons. On my legs, I wore a White thigh-highs outfit set held by a lace garter at the upper thigh. The white thigh-highs visually elongate the leg lines, and paired with the garters, add depth while preventing the socks from slipping down while walking. On my feet were a pair of black patent leather high heels with a subtle platform. This shoe style was quite helpful during studio shooting, not only echoing the black on top but also nicely flattering the length of the calves.

Regarding makeup and hairstyle, Cheshire's look features short layered hair with a greyish-black base and cyan-blue highlights. To match the hair color, I aligned eye makeup and contact lenses toward blue shades, wearing blue contact lenses with subtly blended eyeshadow to make my gaze appear clearer. Before this high-purity blue backdrop, I specifically adjusted the saturation of blush and lip color with the makeup artist, selecting a liquid pink lip glaze that brightened my facial complexion. Frontal soft lighting was used without harsh high-contrast shadows, softening facial contours and rendering skin texture delicately.

The studio floor for this shoot was covered with a white carpet, flanked by two white Roman pillars featuring rich carved details and layered classical textures. Around the floor and pillars were arrangements of blue and purple artificial hydrangeas and green leafy vines. This cool-toned decor paired with the black and white Maid outfit didn't feel colorfully jarring, but instead gave a dreamy sense of breaking the fourth wall.

Next, let me share the specific pose design. For the first photo, I chose a pose standing on one leg with the other lifted. Shooting this pose was actually quite a test of balance and core strength; standing on one foot in high heels easily causes wobbling, so I had to stabilize my lower body. While maintaining balance, I used one hand to gently pull the long black ribbon hanging from the end of my glove, letting it form a natural drape curve. This action not only highlighted the light, airy feel of the outfit, but also showcased leg lines wonderfully, serving as a clever pose that enhances visual tension.

The second photo is a half-body close-up where I raised both hands above my head, hooking those two long black ribbons to form a framing composition in front of my eyes. This framing naturally draws viewers' attention toward facial expressions, creating a clear, translucent feel against the blue backdrop. The photographer captured it brilliantly right as my eyes lifted slightly, showing the character's slightly sly yet very lively demeanor. This close-up also tested makeup details, and fortunately my condition was great that day, with eyeshadow and foundation applying seamlessly.

As for this TFP shoot, our collaboration went very smoothly. The photographer was quick on the shutter, testing lights multiple times between the blue screen and physical set before finding the perfect lighting position. Pose ranges were continuously adjusted during shooting to keep ribbons fluttering naturally without making clothes look messy. In fact, garter tightness and accessory placement had to be fine-tuned repeatedly before shooting, or they could easily shift out of alignment.

Overall, the black and white Maid outfit paired with a White thigh-highs outfit and black high heels, combined with the blue-purple set and soft studio lighting, yielded image quality that met expectations. The advantage of this approach in Anime-style photography is that it focuses on showcasing character styling details rather than relying solely on grand scenes. Overly strong light or overly complex backgrounds can swallow the subject into the environment instead. The cool ambient light didn't make skin tones look pale; moderate lip color touches brightened facial highlights nicely. This technique fuses character vitality with post-production color grading to make the final work feel more atmospheric.

This relaxed yet photogenic shooting experience made me thoroughly enjoy expressing myself before the camera. Though this outfit imposed some limits on movement range, finding the right angles still allowed us to highlight the clever design details behind the attire. Black straps, heart-shaped necklace, blue-green highlighted short hair—every element blended naturally within the overall blue atmosphere for this Cheshire Cosplay set.
