[New Jersey cosplay] Azur Lane Bunny Girl, The Cool & Dashing Charm of Blue and Black Tones

Today I shot this Bunny girl outfit for New Jersey from Azur Lane. Speaking of which, this costume is truly packed with details! First is the wig—a light blue with silver-grey undertones. The hair strands are styled to be very fluffy, and the front bangs had to be trimmed just right so they wouldn't block my eyes while framing my face nicely. The bunny ears on top also feature this silver-grey to dark gradient texture; they feel firm and supportive when pinched, though balancing and securing them on my head took a bit of effort. The core of this styling lies in the mesh paneled costume—the mesh across the chest reveals a shimmering starry night effect, which looks stunning when the light hits it during the shoot. The reflective dark blue collar around the neck has an amazing texture, and paired with the black arm bands, it completely maxes out that cool yet sexy vibe of a bunny girl.

For makeup, I specifically paired it with blue contact lenses to match the colors of the wig and outfit. The eyeliner was slightly extended, focusing on the defined hair flow of the eyelashes to make my eyes look brighter. I used a soft pink blush to make my complexion look more lively. For my lips, I chose a glossy rose-tinted lip glaze to balance out the overall cool tones, making my features feel less cold. You might have noticed that I tried to present a relaxed state in front of the lens; whether doing a full-body V-sign or close-up claw poses, it was all to complement the lively setting of this outfit.

Matching this look, another crucial element is the key concept of thick thighs outfit styling. This time I wore sheer black tights and leg garters. Although my reflection in the mirror was partially obstructed from a distance, outlining the leg lines is actually super important for this bunny girl outfit. To display a slightly curvy yet healthy look, I adjusted several standing postures and angles during the shoot. For instance, standing on one leg while slightly turning sideways, or bending over slightly, allows the boundary between the black tights and skin to look natural. Mirror selfie photos have one downside: as you can tell from the background, the mirror was indeed a bit dirty, with mottled spots and even a few reflective scratches. However, during post-color grading, I blended these dust marks and reflections into the overall cool-toned atmosphere, which actually added a transparent feel akin to a film filter. Many friends asked me how to wear this outfit; since the mesh and patent leather panels fit very snugly, you need to adjust every decorative buckle one by one when putting it on, but the resulting effect is truly amazing. Under top lighting indoors, this outfit has a cold metallic luster, but under side-angled lighting, it shifts to a different texture, with glitter on the mesh shimmering subtly under the light.

I actually really enjoy adjusting my looks in front of indoor mirrors because I can see the full-body effect immediately; since the mirror was a bit smudged, I simply took advantage of that hazy texture. Trying this blue-and-black cool color palette paired with skin tones and black tights was also a practice in color-to-skin harmony. A fresh, clean makeup look is also essential—to keep the blue tones from looking too dull, I kept the eyeshadow very light, focusing instead on line shapes. Paired with the hairstyle's bangs and sideburns, it delivers a delicate yet energetic feel. This close-up shot is one of my personal favorites: you can clearly see the eye makeup details and the refraction of glitter on the mesh under the light, which, combined with slightly parted fingers, carries a touch of playful charm.

Whenever I do cosplays that require highlighting my figure, I always make preparations in advance, such as maintaining good posture to ensure the outfit presents its best visual effect. The combination of large bunny ears and a cool-toned hair color turns out to be surprisingly skin-brightening on camera. Overall, this shoot basically achieved the cool, dashing, yet cute effect I envisioned. This outfit actually has many details, including the mini-skirt design and back cutouts, which weren't fully shown in these selfie angles, so I'll share more angles with everyone when I get the chance. I've also seen many cosplayers doing this character; everyone has their own interpretations and preferences. I chose a color scheme closer to the original artwork with a blend of mechanical feel and softness, hoping to capture New Jersey's bunny girl charm. After shooting, I was reflecting that next time, I'll try shooting in a cleaner environment or using different lighting setups to make the glitter on the outfit even more eye-catching, and perhaps design more dynamic poses, as the current presentation is still a bit conservative. However, being able to capture the authentic texture of this costume already makes me quite happy!
